Review story this week is The Hungry Earth and Cold Blood

We haven’t spent any time with the Eleventh Doctor nor Series 5 in a while so does this story bring back good memories or are we pulled under the ground in nostalgic disappointment?

Thank you all for listening this week. Our review story next week will be SJA: The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith. Until then have a great week and remember – Allons-y!

Again we diverge from the Doctor Who Universe to look at films starring actors who have played the Doctor.

As you know by now, in the spirit of the Halloween season, we’re reviewing movies that could be considered a horror, a thriller, or just spooky in story and tone. And this time we may have stretched that definition somewhat.

In this episode we look at Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctor actors Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy along with Third Doctor actor, Jon Pertwee in 1993’s BBV production, The Airzone Solution. And then we follow that up with Tenth Doctor actor David Tennant in the 2013 remake of Fright Night.

    And, of course, feedback.

    Enjoy!

"Mightiest of warriors, greatest in battle, humblest of your servants."

Well they do say learning to love yourself is the greatest love of all, Achilles, but this is tendon towards arrogance.

Yes, this month it's the swords and sandals epic, The Myth Makers, in which Steven gets a new outfit, Vicki gets a new name and the Doctor gets out of a breezy solo flight into the big city.

They meet a jolly Jack Tar, a sotto voce soldier, a shrieking soothsayer and a king who chucks his Troys out of the Priam (yes, we know that doesn't make any sense but all Donald Cotton's puns are getting to us).

So is there really a Doctor in the horse?

Will Vicki find true love with the time-weathered teen, Troilus?

And will Jim and Martin award The Myth Makers legendary status or did it ring as hollow as a Trojan Horse?

Listen to find the answer to some of these questions and less.

another 20 for 20 Houndsite this time talking @BigFinish at 20 Ep07 MR71 The Council of Nicaea     The year is 325AD. In the city of Nicaea, the first great Church council, called by the Roman Emperor Constantine, is due to begin. Here theology, philosophy and politics will be brought together for millennia to come. The Doctor, Peri and Erimem are there simply to watch events unfold. Gaps remain in the history books, and the Doctor has come to satisfy his curiosity. But none of them are ready for what greets them in Nicaea. Intrigue within the Imperial Palace has become violence on the streets. Mobs roam the alleyways and blood is spilt in the name of faith. Even in the face of murder and injustice though, the time travellers must force themselves to stay aloof. This is history, after all. Yet what is history to one person is the future to another. Is it possible for history to be rewritten? And if it can, can the Doctor afford to let it? THIS TITLE IS NOW OUT OF STOCK ON CD.

Dave and Richard have been to see Joker. What did they think of it? Tune in!

Joker is a 2019 American psychological thriller film directed by Todd Phillips, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. The film, based on DC Comics characters, stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. An origin story set in 1981, the film follows Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian who turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City. Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham, and Marc Maron appear in supporting roles. Joker was produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Films, and Village Roadshow Pictures, and distributed by Warner Bros.

Joker premiered at the 76th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2019, where it won the Golden Lion, and was released in the United States on October 4, 2019. The film polarised critics; while Phoenix's performance was praised, the dark tone, portrayal of mental illness, and handling of violence divided responses. Joker also generated concerns of inspiring real-world violence; the movie theatre where the 2012 Aurora, Colorado mass shooting occurred during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises refused to show it.

Might be from the radioactive cool whip factory.

Did you ever notice how it’s always “thin ice” but never “thick ice.” You can never have thick ice, I guess, which is weird since most ice like glaciers are pretty thick. But then again I guess it depends if you measure thick or thin vertically or horizontally. It’s Thin Ice, written by Sarah Dollard and aired on April 29, 2017.
