Dissecting Worlds Series 3 Episode 7 - Miltiary Conclusions
Geek SyndicateThe terrible twosome wrap up their miltiary series with a general chin wag about what've learned over the last 6 weeks. Not a lot, but in the course of this they consider does SF ever really tell miltiary stories? Where there is space to tell such stories?. How do Computer games fit in to genre military fiction?. Is there a miltiary fiction genre of it's own? Why is Outcasts so poo? They also consider modern British casualty sensitivity and consider the allogorical power of science fiction and how it's sometimes wasted in miltary SF. Matt is unkind to Footfall while discussing asymetrical warfare and Kehaar is as always the steady voice of wise counsel (not.)Needless to say they bounce around such historical matters as comedy Nazis, Northern Ireland and the British Indian Army. The low tech colony book mentioned is actually Seeds of Earth by Michael Cobleyhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Seeds-Earth-Humanitys-Michael-Cobley/dp/1841496316/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1297596904&sr=1-1Details of 'Conspiracy' here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266425/Feedback is as ever welcome on the forums, or by emailing dissectingworlds@yahoo.co.uk. Episode 38: A Gallifrey 22 Preview!
The TARDIS TavernFor those of you that have never been there, you just don't know what you're missing.
As of this writing, it is five days until Gallifrey 22 begins in sunny Los Angeles, California. We're looking forward to seeing Peter "Fifth Doctor" Davison, Sarah Sutton, Janet Fielding, and a barage of other Doctor Who celebrities. Really, it's a nerd's wet dream.
In this episode, we talk a bit about the schedule, what we're looking forward to, and what first-timers might expect. It must be said in every description of Gallifrey, however, that it's not just about the celebrities and the panels. It's also about meeting friends for that same time every year and, at least for us, a time for copious amounts of booze to flow late into the night. (That's like every other night of the year, really.)
Oh, and there's some lovely feedback as well.
Speaking of which, please send feedback to tardistavern@gmail.com, join us on Facebook (we have 100 members now!), and follow Sean's tweets via @tardistavern.

Episode 2: Damaged Goods
The Doctor Who Book Club PodcastAnd for our next selection...
Damaged Goods from 1996! (ISBN: 0-426-20483-2) Part of the Virgin New Adventures, this is part of the series of books written chronicling the Seventh Doctor's exploits after the end of the classic series. This novel takes place after Ace has stopped being the Doctor's companion and he is instead traveling with Chris and Roz--about whom I know very little, I admit.
So, why this one? Well, it was written by none other than...wait for it...Russell T Davies!!! Yes, this is your (only) chance to see how the man responsible for resurrecting Doctor Who wrote about a "classic" Doctor.
From the back cover:
Wherever this cocaine has travelled, it hasn't gone alone. Death has been its attendant. Death in a remarkably violent and inelegant form.
The Doctor, Chris and Roz arrive at the Quadrant, a troubled council Block in Thatcher's Britain. There's a new drug on the streets, a drug that's killing to a plan. Somehow, the very ordinary people of the Quadrant are involved. And so, amidst the growing chaos, a bizarre trio moves into number 43.
The year is 1987: a drug dealer has risen from the grave, and an ancient weapon is concealed beneath human tragedy. But the Doctor soon discovers that the things people do for their children can be every bit as deadly as any alien menace -- as he uncovers the link between a special child, an obsessive woman, and a desperate bargain made one dark Christmas Eve.
Doesn't that sound light-hearted and fun, children? Fair warning, I think this one may be a bit more on the "mature" end of things. We do hope you'll be able to procure a copy and read along with us.
You can send all feedback to dwbcpodcast@gmail.com, leave us a comment here, or catch us on Twitter: @dwbcpodcast, @tardistavern (Sean), or @sjcaustenite (Erik).

TDP 158: Chicks Dig Time Lords
Tin Dog PodcastIn Chicks Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the Women Who Love It, a host of award-winning female novelists, academics and actresses come together to celebrate the phenomenon that is Doctor Who, discuss their rather inventive involvement with the show's fandom, and examine why they adore this series so much. All told, this essay collection is designed to inform and delight male and female readers alike, and to examine some of the more extraordinary aspects of being a female Doctor Who enthusiast. Essay topics include Carole Barrowman (Anything Goes) discussing what it was like to grow up with her brother John (including the fact that he's still afraid of shop-window dummies), longtime columnist Jackie Jenkins providing a memoir of her work on "Doctor Who Magazine," novelist Lloyd Rose (Camera Obscura) analyzing the changes in Rose between the ninth and tenth Doctors, and much more. Other contributors to this essay collection include Elizabeth Bear (the Jenny Casey trilogy), Lisa Bowerman (star of the Bernice Summerfield audios), Mary Robinette Kowal (Shades of Milk and Honey), Seanan McGuire (Rosemary and Rue), Jody Lynn Nye (the Mythology series), Kate Orman (Seeing I), Catherynne M. Valente (The Orphan's Tales), and more. Also featured: a comic from Tammy Garrison and Katy Shuttleworth (Torchwood Babiez), plus interviews with India Fisher (Charley in the Doctor Who audios) and Sophie Aldred (Ace on Doctor Who, 1987-1989).
