It was one of the more exciting weeks in Doctor Who recently with global cinema screenings of "The Day of The Doctor" being announced around the world, and Big Finish's 50th anniversary story "The Light At The End" being given an early release, one month before the actual anniversary itself. The resulting chaos showed that no internet site knows the wrath of an impatient group of Doctor Who fans, but at the end of the day, thousands of fans will be watching the 50th Anniversary story in 3D together in cinemas (the Three Who Rule included!) on November 23 and 25. Once the furore of this died down on the podcast, the Skaro boys turn back the clock to delve into the first half of the John Nathan-Turner era in the Miniscope, with the wonderful Rob Shearman!

If there's one thing we both love, it's films and television shows on Blu-Ray. If there's one thing Steve is kind of ambivalent about, it's the Pertwee era. Put the two together, and we couldn't resist talking about the recent release of "Spearhead from Space" on Blu-Ray.

Disclaimer 1: This is not an intervention. Steve purchased the copy of "Spearhead from Space" on his own volition and with his own money. We planned to do something else for this episode, but it fell through, and so we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to talk about it.

Disclaimer 2: This description makes it appear as though Steve was dragged kicking and screaming into this project by Sean, and this episode will consist primarily of Steve grumbling and Sean squeeing. You might just be surprised.

Facebook, email, Twitter, blah blah blah, if you wanted to get in touch with us you would have figured it out by now.

In a strange universe, in the distant future, the President, Vice-President and Treasurer of the Prentis Hancock Appreciation Society, Brendan, Richard and Nathan, meet to discuss shower curtains, detergent bottles and undeserved survival in Planet of Evil.

    Buy the stories!

Planet of Evil was released on DVD in 2007/2008. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)

Richard and Brendan are quick to identify this story’s main sources: Howard Hawks’ The Thing From Another World (1951), Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1886) and Forbidden Planet (1956).

In Stanislaw Lem’s [Solaris (1961)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solaris_(novel)), the members of a scientific expedition are studied and psychologically traumatised by the sentient ocean of an alien planet.

Ponti is played by Louis Mahoney, who also appears in Frontier in Space and Blink, but perhaps he is most famous as a doctor in the Fawlty Towers episode, The Germans.

The Haunting of BBC Television Centre: can anyone explain the mysterious face that appears on the ship’s screen in Part 3 after the Doctor has fallen into the pond?

Fans of the way Brendan’s mind works will enjoy this picture of a giant frog from Alex Kidd in Miracle World (1986), which looks eerily familiar. To him.

    Follow us!

Brendan is on Twitter as @brandybongos, Nathan is @nathanbottomley, Todd is @toddbeilby, and Richard’s Twitter account has fallen into a black pond full of antimatter. You can follow the podcast on Twitter as @FTEpodcast.

We’re also on Facebook, and you can check out our website at flightthroughentirety.com. And please consider rating or reviewing us on iTunes, or we’ll sneak into your lunchbox and fill your thermos full of dry ice.

    Meanwhile, elsewhere on the internet…

We’ve launched our new project, Bondfinger, with our first commentary on Dr. No (1962). You can keep up with all the Bondfinger news on Twitter and Facebook.

After nearly nine years of podcasting together the lads celebrate their 250th episode. They also celebrate the small fact that in those almost nine years they only tried to kill each other twice. No, no that other time doesn't count that was only a flesh wound.

    Anyhoo on with the show!

First up big, big thanks to the ladies of Anime Kei and the team at the 86th floor for providing this episode's intro. Now go and check out their epic musical recaps like Game of Thrones.

    News

    • Dave briefly chats about some Arrow casting that is personal to him.
    • The Han Solo spin off film is discussed and this time it's the lads who shoot first.
    • Monts and Nuge talk about their panels at the upcoming Nine Worlds Convention.

    Week that was

    • Killjoys
    • Dark Matter
    • Original Sin
    • iZombie
    • Now they have been using it for a little while the guys give their thoughts on Marvel Unlimited.

    Main

The lads read out some listerner emails.

Big thanks again to everyone who has stuck with us and has enjoyed the show.
