Sarah is overcome by lack of oxygen. While Harry and the Doctor explore, Sarah is transported away and placed into cryonic suspension by the station computer. Harry and the Doctor explore and realize the station is a kind of ark. Discovering Sarah, Harry searches for a resuscitation unit but discovers a mummified alien insect instead. A woman (Vira) revives from suspended animation. Vira revives both Sarah and the Ark's leader, Lazar, nicknamed "Noah". The Doctor tells Vira that the Ark's (Space Station Nerva) inhabitants have overslept by several millennia, thanks to the insect visitor that sabotaged the control systems. Noah and the visitors clash, and Noah accuses them of murdering a missing crewmate. Noah investigates the power room and is infected by an alien creature. The Doctor realizes the alien insect laid eggs inside the missing crewman, who became an alien now inhabiting the Ark. Noah kills a crewmate, but recovers enough to order Vira to revive the remaining crew and evacuate, but the Doctor realizes the alien pupae will mature too quickly for this. He proposes that they destroy the Wirrn while they are in their dormant, pupal stage. Dissection of the Wirrn corpse reveals the Wirrn are vulnerable to electricity. As he tries to reactivate the station power, the fully transformed Noah attacks him. Noah reveals that the Wirrn were driven from their home by human settlers and now intend to absorb all human knowledge. To electrify the cryogenic chamber and overcome the Wirrn, Sarah crawls through service conduits to reach the Doctor and succeeds in electrifying the Ark. Set back, Noah, as the Swarm Leader, offers the others safe passage from the Ark if they leave the sleeping crew for the Wirrn, but the crew decline. The Wiirn escape in a transport ship. Noah, realizing his altered nature, sabotages the engines. He transmits one final good-bye to Vira before the transport ship explodes with the entire Wiirn swarm on board. In the closing sequence, the TARDIS party transmats down to Earth to repair the receiver terminal and allow the Ark colonists to repopulate the Earth. [edit]Continuity This serial forms part of a continuous series of adventures for the TARDIS crew, beginning from the end of Robot and continuing through to Terror of the Zygons. The Doctor, Sarah, and Harry return to Nerva at the end of the season in Revenge of the Cybermen. The Fourth Doctor also returns to Nerva in the Big Finish audio Destination Nerva, by Nicholas Briggs. In the script, Wirrn is spelled with only two 'r's. In Ian Marter's (the actor who portrayed Harry Sullivan) novelisation of The Ark in Space, Wirrrn is spelled with three 'r's.The Wirrn also appear in the BBV audio play Wirrn: Race Memory. The Eighth Doctor encounters the Wirrn in the Eighth Doctor Adventures novel Placebo Effect, by Gary Russell and the Big Finish audio story Wirrn Dawn by Nicholas Briggs. [edit]Production Serial details by episode EpisodeBroadcast dateRun timeViewership(in millions) "Part One" 25 January 1975 24:58 9.4 "Part Two" 1 February 1975 24:49 13.6 "Part Three" 8 February 1975 24:05 11.2 "Part Four" 15 February 1975 24:37 10.2 [1][2][3] The script, written by Robert Holmes, is from a story by John Lucarotti, which was rewritten because it was considered unusable. Holmes rewrote The Ark in Space as a four part serial as a lead in to the two part The Sontaran Experiment. Lucarotti does not receive any on-screen credit.[4][5] Producer Philip Hinchcliffe believed that in order to expand the show's core audience, it was necessary to broaden the show's appeal to adults, and Ark in Space demonstrates this with its use of horror, particularly the inexorable transformation of Noah into an alien creature. A scene in which the half-transformed Noah begs Vira to kill him was deemed too scary for children and had to be cut.[6] The sets for this story were re-used for Revenge of the Cybermen, partially set on Space Station Nerva at an earlier time.[7] The title sequence for Part One was tinted green as an experiment, but was not repeated for subsequent episodes. The title sequence would stay constant for the next six years.[8] [edit]Broadcast and reception Part Two of this story charted at number five for the most-watched television programmes across the week on all channels. This was the highest chart placing ever attained by a single episode of Doctor Who until 2007's Voyage of the Damned placed second for both that week and the entire year. The highest rated episode (in terms of viewing audience) is Part Four of City of Death. At Inside the World of Doctor Who, a live event hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts on 29 November 2008,Russell T Davies, producer of the 21st century revival of Doctor Who, said that The Ark in Space was his favourite story from the original run of Doctor Who[9] as did Steven Moffat.[10] [edit]In print Doctor Who book Doctor Who and the Ark in Space Series Target novelisations Release number 4 Writer Ian Marter Publisher Target Books Cover artist Chris Achilleos ISBN 0-426-11631-3 Release date 10 May 1977 A novelisation of this serial, written by Ian Marter, was published by Target Books in 1977. This was Marter's first novelisation for Target (he would write several more before his death in 1986). Marter alters the ending so that the travellers leave in the TARDIS. [edit]VHS, Laserdisc and DVD releases The Ark in Space was first released on VHS in 1989 in an omnibus format. It was then re-released in 1994 in its original episodic format. It was released on Laserdisc in 1996 in its original episodic format. It was released on DVD in the United Kingdom on 8 April 2002. It was released for sale on iTunes on 11 August 2008. The Ark in Space has been announced for a special edition DVD release on 18 February 2013.[11] [edit]References ^ Shaun Lyon et al. (31 March 2007). "The Ark in Space". Outpost Gallifrey. The 20mb Doctor Who Podcast #151
The 20mb Doctor Who PodcastSPECIAL GUEST: DAPHNE ASHBROOK
This week we were honoured by the presence of the delightful Daphne Ashbrook who gave us well over an hour of her time. She talks with great affection of her experience in the world of Who. She also talks candidly about many subjects close to her heart and hints about the future. We hope you enjoy listening to her as much as we did. There was an issue with Skype and at times the audio quality suffers and we apologise for that.
After Adam, Kirby, Mary, Robert and Rhys stopped gushing we review the Sarah Jane Aventures story, The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith by Gareth Roberts.
We also have feedbacf from old and new and a look at news.
Thanks very much to Daphne’s partner Vito for sorting out the interview and for his patience.
Don’t forget listen to Rhys on the Who Is The Man podcast http://whoitmcast.libsyn.com/

Episode 2....The one in which we have no audio problems!
Two girls, a guy and a TARDIS....The Podcast - Nervous Dog ProduSo welcome to episode 2 of Two Girls, A Guy and a TARDIS! This time we don't have any audio issues and you can hear all 3 of us! Joanna is hyped, Nicole has some big news, I'm jealous and we discuss the pros and cons of big cons vs small cons (wow that sentence had more cons than a prison!) Anyway, the episode runs a bit long but we also discuss companion hate, find out there is a Doctor Who Burlesque show, Tennant-Davison family gatherings and of course plenty of 50th anniversary news such as which bad guy would we like to see, multiple Doctors and which companions may make a return. All that plus a little more, so thanks for listening and thanks for your support! Enjoy!

A Remnant of PodKasts!
Kasterborous Podkast
This week’s podKast (with a “K”) is a collision of time – and indeed “wime” – as we bring some recent unheard highlights to the table as Christian Cawley, James McLean and Brian Terranova discuss some Doctor Who topics “after hours”.That term isn’t an admission of adult language (although you might find a particular rude word in there), rather an explanation that sometimes we end up continuing our discussions after the allotted recording time has ended. As we were unable to commit to an agreed time this week, the result is an interesting mash of chats about pacing in Doctor Who and other shows and films, the question of whether there are any episodes that are missing audio (as opposed to video) and whether the separation between the modern and classic series is really as clearly defined as we think it is.
Also, look out for the announcement of our Shada competition winner, and our new comp – the chance to win Terry Nation: The Man Who Invented the Daleks, by Alwyn W. Turner.
Listen to the podKast for the question and send your entries to terrynation@kasterborous.com. Winners will be announced in a fortnight’s time in that week’s podKast.
Should you choose to do so, you can listen in one of three ways:
- Use the player in the top right of each page on Kasterborous.
- Listen with the "pop out" player above, which also allows you to download the podKast to your computer.
- Third, you can take advantage of the RSS feed to subscribe to the podKast for your media player, and also find us on iTunes!
Incidentally, if you are listening on iTunes, please take the time to leave a rating and review and help us to bring in new listeners to the podKast!

Doctor Who Commentary - 'An Unearthly Child' - The First Doctor
Impossible Podcasts
We start counting down to Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary in November by looking back over the history of Doctor Who, from 1963 down to the present! In this episode, Caleb and Swithun go right back to the very beginning, to discuss An Unearthly Child, (or if you prefer, 100,000BC or The Tribe of Gum, Hartnell overall story titles being what they are…)William Hartnell was the original Doctor – but is he the original and best? We consider how the Doctor evolved from mysterious and unreliable mad scientist into the unconventional action hero he is today. Plus, how has the role of the companions changed since the original TARDIS crew of Ian, Barbara and Susan, as played by William Russell, Jacqueline Hill and Carole Anne Ford.
Join us as we celebrate the classic opening episode where it all began, plus reconsider those neglected cavemen episodes that follow… or should we skip to the Daleks already?
How do you feel An Unearthly Child holds up after all these years? Are you a fan of the First Doctor, and what are your favourite stories from his era? If you’re a recent Doctor Who fan who came to it since it’s 2005 return, what is it like to go back and uncover Doctor Who’s past? Let us know your thoughts below!

Episode 76: The Wrong Podcast
The TARDIS TavernThere are two things we learned since recording this podcast. The first is never to drink while listening or watching the subject matter that you’re going to review. The second is that we have a soft spot for Big Finish. We’ve had our stinkers (Red Dawn) and our triumphs (Peri and the Pescon Paradox), so we dipped our fingers into the audio vault once again and pulled out Big Finish’s most recent of its main line of stories, The Wrong Doctors.
So with that join us as we jump a train to Pease Pottage and visit two Melanie Bushes, two Sixth Doctors (one in blue and the other in his traditional patchwork coat), dinosaurs, and singing septuagenarians. If that sounds a little confusing, just imagine if you were drunk.

Episode 62 : The Greatest Show in the Galaxy
The Untempered Schism PodcastThe Seventh Doctor isn’t always planning the downfall of great evil and stopping darkness, sometimes he just wants to have a little fun, so when the idea of visiting the Psychic Circus comes up he’s happy to take it and drag Ace along in the process. Of course instead of finding good fun and creepy clowns they discover a trio of older gods looking for a good time, kites that can spy on you, a killer conductor and creepy clowns. It’s all a part of The Greatest Show in the Galaxy!

Episode 27 - The One About Mystery Science Theater 3000
Transmissions From Atlantis
We take you back to the 1990′s for this week’s episode. Mystery Science Theater 3000 was one of our favorite shows back in those days. It had a simple concept. A guy with his robot friends “riffing” the most horrible movies you can ever see. With the availability of the show on Amazon Instant Download, we give you some of our favorites. We also talk the Sci-Fi and Horror Super Bowl ads, more on the defunct Superman Lives, and Firefly – how can they bring it back without Wash? We give you our review of Hansel and Gretel, talk up World War Z and give a retro review of Paranorman.
Of course, we always have Doctor Who and we have a ton of 50th anniversary news – plus our Legacy Who Redux features The Tomb of the Cybermen!

The Ood Cast S05E11 - Snow Business
The Ood CastIt’s February. And what’s the first thing you think of when you think of February? That’s right…
Christmas.
So with that in mind, the Ood Cast present their review of the Christmas special – The Snowmen.
What would Strax have done in biblical times? What other tall tales did Clara tell? How did Sir Arthur Conan Doyle explain away Madame Vastra to his agent? Can Jenna-Louise Coleman do just the two accents?
These are all questions. Good ones. And we’ll answer every single one of them in a vigorously dramatic format. All that and a couple of spirited musical interludes besides.
Come with us on our hideously delayed sleigh ride of wonder.
IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR.
FEBRUARY.

Tim's Take On...My classic series reviews conclude(for now) with Dr Who: The Keys of Marinus, as with a lot of six parters it seems at times over long. These reviews will continue later in. the year after my coverage of Gallifrey One and Big Finish Day 3.
