Dissecting Scrolls Solves Christmas
Geek SyndicateLate? What do you mean, late? We've been here for ages, honest!(Okay, it's a fair cop - but better late than never, eh?)Once again the Geek Syndicate Network presents our annual array of panel games and silly banter. The First Lady of Scrolls starts things off with her version of Just A Minute, in which the contestants struggle to speak on a given topic without deviation, hesitation or repetition. Clover's subjects range from grumpy dragons to horny time-travellers, while the clock ticks ever downwards. You can practically hear the sweat.Next up is newcomer Tim Swann with Pointless, in which the contestants vie to find the most obscure but accurate answers. For folk unfamiliar with the quiz show, think Family Fortunes in reverse. Under the microscope are Firefly, Doctor Who, Star Trek and Star Wars. but what everybody really wants to know is how did Tim managed to split his brain in two?We follow up with chameleonic truths and outrageous lies as Dion chairs the classic game of Call My Bluff. Each contestant presents three definitions of a word or phrase related to film, tv, radio, book, comic, or game. Their opponents must ask them questions and try to work out the facts from the fibs. Technical difficulties hit us at this point, but we've preserved most of the show. Finally, Matt Farr (the otherwise genial Grampus) dons his alter-ego as Lord Alan Sidious, weeding out the wastrels in his sour-faced search for the next Sith Apprentice. The contestants each take on the role of a villain from anywhere in space and time, pitching their plans for domination to Lord Alan. Who will impress the Enterprising Emperor and who will be summarily executed? We lost Mr Ambler's game of Geeking Talk to gremlins, but two hours ought to be enough for you all.So, grab some nibbles, pop your party hat on and help us drain the last dregs of Christmas spirit as Dissecting Scrolls Solves Christmas![Musical snatches come from Eddie Reader's album The Songs Of Robert Burns. I think she's fab. You should buy all her stuff.]Stay In Touch. You can follow most of the contestants on Twitter under the following monikers @thegrampus @Dion_Scrolls @Phlambler @tetrarchangelWhat do Points make? Prizes!Sadly, we have no faith in our scoring systems, so the decision is YOURS. The Oncoming Storm Ep 42: NA # 14 New (Year's) Adventures
The Oncoming StormIt's episode 42 of The Oncoming Storm! Your hosts Josh and Ashley are back for their first recording of the new year, and there's a ton to catch up on! After cutting through the swath of news stories and announcements, instead of being witty and making some Douglas Adams connection in this episode, your dauntless hosts are back at the New Adventure grindstone, and looking at the debut novel for some authors who you'll see crop up in Doctor Who circles for years to come. This week, Lucifer Rising by Andy Lane & Jim Mortimore is in the hot seat. As the Doctor, Ace, and Benny investigate a murder mystery on a scientific station, Josh and Ashley talk about Ace's character arc, the Doctor's dirty deeds, and Benny being, well, Benny. There's misery and death to be had, as well as lots of continuity references...
"An eleven dimensional alien being."
The Oncoming Storm... This time, we've got an elev... Dammit Legion, you did it again!

PodKast with a Competition!
Kasterborous PodkastHappy 2013! It’s podKast time, and this week we’re discussing a nice selection of Doctor Who-related things, from Big Finish’s 50th anniversary plans to our recent recommendations, what episode we would take to a desert island and running a competition for you to win a copy of the paperback version of Shada!
It’s a full team this time too, with Brian Terranova, James McLean and editor Christian Cawley on hand to offer their thoughts and hopes for Big Finish’s various 50th anniversary projects (that we know about) and share their answers to our new semi-regular feature, Desert Island Doctor Who.
In order to be in with a chance of winning a copy of the new paperback version of Gareth Roberts’ adaptation of Douglas Adams Shada (out January 31st), you’ll need to listen to this week’s podKast, via the player below.
(The email address for entering the competition is shada@kasterborous.com. Competition closes on January 27th, 2013. Winner will be announced in the first podKast following this date.)
Yes, it’s a new year – so why not enjoy a new podKast? There are three ways to listen:
- Use the player in the top right of each page on Kasterborous.
- Listen with the "pop out" player above, which also allows you to download the podKast to your computer.
- Third, you can take advantage of the RSS feed to subscribe to the podKast for your media player, and also find us on iTunes!
Incidentally, if you are listening on iTunes, please take the time to leave a rating and review and help us to bring in new listeners to the podKast!
