103 - How to Watch Doctor Who
Doctor Who: Verity!Editor's note: We recorded this before the Amazon Prime/Crave TV news dropped! Appropriate links below.
We've touched on it before, but in our year of firsts, we thought it worth revisiting--where do you recommend people start watching Doctor Who? And how can folks (especially in the US) find it to watch? Join Deb Erika, and Tansy as we dive deep into both halves of this tricky equation. There are many different strategies to get folks to join us in loving Doctor Who, but there are few ways to watch it--and even fewer now that Hulu and Netflix in the US have lost all DW titles.
How do you start new viewers on Doctor Who? Do you base it on the person, or do you have a go-to story? And where do you recommend they find what you want them to watch? Let us know in the comments!

This Neocon World
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week, we’re manic, reactive and endogenous, as we contemplate fondant, marshmallow, and the practical problem with leaving someone alive. Make sure you’ve paid your poll tax — it’s time for an outing with The Happiness Patrol.
On with the Motley
In our ongoing postal plebiscite, you’ll be voting on which Colin Baker story will be the subject of our next commentary podcast. Take your mind off the horrors of democracy, head over to the shownotes for Episode 121, and cast your vote.
Buy the story!
The Happiness Patrol was released on DVD in 2012. In the US, it was released on its own (Amazon US), while in the UK and Australia, it was inexplicably released as part of the Ace Adventures box set, along with Dragonfire (Amazon UK).
Notes and links
Richard continues to feud with the hosts of the New To Who podcast. They’re all very attractive.
Dog lovers will find today’s upsetting media landscape impossible to navigate without referring to doesthedogdie.com.
The sound, look and feel of this story owes a lot to noirish thriller The Third Man (1949).
Section 28 of the Local Government Act (1988) was a dogshit piece of legislation enacted by the viciously homophobic Thatcher Government that banned the “promotion” of homosexuality. It remained in force in the UK until 2003.
And here’s the Monty Python sketch about Happy Valley, in which anyone unhappy was immediately put to death. Hilariously.
And here’s Nathan’s personal take on the idea of Frocks and Guns in Doctor Who.
Horrifically enough, Richard is right about the term Joy Division being used to refer to the practice of sexual slavery in Nazi labour camps.
Lady Land is the official TV Tropes name for the Planet of Women trope.
Neither Richard nor Nathan have ever even heard of T-Bag, a British TV programme about a weird witch who travelled around time and space collecting weird objects. For the last few years of the show, T-Bag was played by Georgina Hale, our very own Priscilla P. (It’s horrifically bad. Take a look at one of the episodes from Season 3 here.)
Follow us!
Brendan is on Twitter as @brandybongos, Nathan is @nathanbottomley, Todd is @toddbeilby and Richard is @RichardLStone. The Flight Through Entirety theme was arranged by Cameron Lam, and the logo was designed by Anthony Wells. You can follow the podcast on Twitter at @FTEpodcast. And more surprising and completely reliable information about the show can be found at @FTEwhofacts.
We’re also on Facebook, and you can check out our website at flightthroughentirety.com. Please consider rating or reviewing us on iTunes, or we’ll run off with your husband in your personal escape shuttle. We’re done it before.

Our commentary on The World is Not Enough (1999) will be released this weekend, probably, but while you’re waiting you can enjoy our previous commentaries on the Pierce Brosnan films, and our commentaries on the Timothy Dalton Era.
We also have plenty of Rodgecasts online, and there are other Bonds available, as well. Even the fake ones that weren’t included in the official box set.

125: Earthshock
The Krynoid PodcastWe start 2020 with an ending.
Loathe him or hate him, Adric has been a big part (prat?) of 80s Who but all things must pass, however indigestible.
Yes, this is Earthshock, which packed a couple of major bombshells back in the day (not counting Beryl Reid). It’s a tale of pointless deaths, some equally pointless characters and gender fluid troopers (many of them genuinely fluid by the time the murderous mime act has finished with them).
The Doctor promotes fine dining, Tegan packs heat, Nyssa plays house and Adric ploughs into the Diplodocidae. Meanwhile, it’s all bonuses and bollockings from Beryl and her long-suffering lackey can’t even sell out his own planet properly. Luckily Scott musters more machismo in his moustache than in Ringway’s whole body but cringing Kyle goes from gung-ho to agoraphobic at the drop of a boiler suit.
So were Jim and Martin wildly cheering or weeping inconsolably by the end of it all?
Listen to find out.
Also available on Spotify.

Orphan 55
Gallifrey Public Radio - A Doctor Who PodcastHot on the heels of a wild series opening salvo, we knew we'd have a change of pace going into the third episode. The building blocks of a great story are there, but we're not sold on the execution.

Doctor Who Time and Space (349)
Doctor Who Time and Space
Lewis Moon and Dr Cool review one of the most divisive episodes of the modern era, Orphan 55, but after their positive views on both Spyfall Parts 1 and 2, will they enjoy it as much or will this prove to be a show of negativity like in series 11? Plus, there's an interesting discussion about the state of Doctor Who in the grand scheme of things. Enjoy!

TDP 696: Blakes 7 2.10 - Voices From The Past
Tin Dog Podcast@TinDogPodcast talks about B10 "Voice from the Past" George Spenton-Foster Roger Parkes 13 March 1979 7.0 (80) Blake suffers nightmares of the memory conditioning the Federation performed on him five years before. On course to the resort world Del-10, Blake makes a sudden unexplained course change to PK-118, a mining asteroid. Avon and the rest believe that someone is trying to manipulate Blake's mind and have him restrained, but Blake tricks Vila into believing that the others are plotting against him. Once free, Blake teleports to PK-118 where he meets a resistance group led by former Arbiter General Ven Glynd - a man who originally convicted Blake at his trial, but claims he has defected. Glynd, along with two other revolutionaries; the frail Shivan (whose face is masked with bandages), and LeGrand (a governor whose ship they later rendezvous with), claim they have enough legal evidence to non-violently overthrow the Federation and request transport to a political meeting on planet Atlay. Avon and the others however, only smell a trap when they realize a device Shivan carries may be controlling Blake's mind. Guest Stars: Richard Bebb (as Ven Glynd), Frieda Knorr (as Governor Le Grand), Martin Read (as Nagu)
