DIDDLY DUM PODCAST 072 - A Mild Shampoo for the Mind
Diddly Dum Podcast
For the second podcast running, the Five Faces of Delusion are only four this week as Allan has gone missing, summoned away at the last minute from his Northern fastness on the Welsh Marches by a mysterious invitation to Cardiff from the movers and shakers of Doctor Who. Our faithless listeners can rest assured that, come next time, we’ll be pumping Allan thoroughly in the debriefing room (audio only alas). In his absence this week, we start a two-part tribute to Patrick Troughton, covering “The Highlanders” and “Tomb of the Cybermen”.Along the way, Hayden’s Jam Pantry (hitherto thought impregnable) gets raided; we examine the curious role played by the Spurs Supporters Club at the Battle of Culloden (with a rare find of a piece of music more ear-shredding than bagpipes); Hayden auditions for TV game shows; Toberman gets a good mind-rinse with Cyber-shampoo and we drool over the long awaited Issue 3 of Vworp Vworp magazine.

Radio Free Skaro #707 – Not All Spiders Sit On The Back
Radio Free SkaroA long-delayed promise of one Mr. Stephen Fry being in or around Doctor Who may come to fruition, as rumours abound he’ll star in the first episode of the upcoming Series 12 (which the BBC currently seems uninterested in promoting…). Otherwise it’s all spinoffs and tat, with Big Finish putting out a multi-Master and Daleks adventure, a Bernice Summerfield colouring book and new, non-Character Options dollies! Mere preamble to this week’s commentary for “Arachnids in the UK” with Den of Geek entertainment journalist and Legitimate Salvage co-host Kayti Burt!

Episode 131 - Steven, Leavin'
Doctor Who: Verity! This week's "last" is a goodbye to a companion we're all quite fond of, Steven Taylor (not to be confused with Steven Tyler). Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Tansy as we marvel at the excellence of this story, the excellence of Dodo in it, the excellence of Steven's reason for leaving the TARDIS, and the total lack of excellence in the general amount of fandom discussion surrounding this story. Why have we heard so little about this one?
Have you watched/read/listened to "The Savages"? Did you love it? Tell us in the comments!

Also covered:
- Liz reads the fab excerpt from Paul Cornell's new novel Chalk (available now!)!
- Tansy
- enjoys Deb's interview with Anneke Wills!
- can finally share her Blake's 7 fan art dollies now that Down and Safe has reached "Gambit"!
- adores a Teefury shirt featuring Hayley Atwell as the 13th Doctor!
- Erika
- recorded a delightful members-only "Who-Complete Me" game show ep of Lazy Doctor Who for The Incomparable Network!
- can't control the squee over the fact that P-Cap will be at Calgary Expo in April!
- Deb

268: Underworld is the Citizen Kane of Doctor Who (The Return of Doctor Mysterio)
Trust Your DoctorTruly, the greatest Doctor Who story of all time.
There’s been a lot of Christmas on the mind recently. There’s even a Christmas scene in The Pilot, so that’s like three weeks worth of Christmas for us, which is quite overwhelming if we’re completely honest. But hey, at least no more for another three months. It’s The Return of Doctor Mysterio, written by Steven Moffat and aired on December 25, 2016.

TDP 652: Main Range 222 - The Contingency Club from @BigFinish
Tin Dog PodcastLondon, 1864 - where any gentleman befitting the title 'gentleman' belongs to a gentlemen's club: The Reform, The Athenaeum, The Carlton, The Garrick... and, of course, The Contingency. Newly established in St James', The Contingency has quickly become the most exclusive enclave in town. A refuge for men of politics, men of science, men of letters. A place to escape. A place to think. A place to be free. The first rule of the Contingency is to behave like a gentleman. The second is to pay no heed to its oddly identical servants. Or to the horror in its cellars. Or to the existence of the secret gallery on its upper floor... Rules that the Doctor, Adric, Nyssa and Tegan are all about to break. Written By: Phil Mulryne Directed By: Barnaby Edwards Cast Peter Davison (The Doctor), Matthew Waterhouse (Adric), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), Janet Fielding (Tegan), Clive Merrison (George Augustus), Philip Jackson (Mr Peabody), Lorelei King (The Red Queen), Tim Bentinck (Wakefield/ Cabby/ Stonegood), Alison Thea-Skot (Marjorie Stonegood/ Computer), Olly McCauley (Edward/ The Knave). Other parts played by members of the cast. Producer David Richardson Script Editor Alan Barnes Executive Producers Jason Haigh-Ellery and Nicholas Briggs

Underworld OR The Blue Screen of Quest
PodcasticaJohn and Taylor are back this week with a review of what was voted (in three separate polls) as the least liked 4th Doctor story! It's Underworld! While the story has its merit, the execution is hindered by an overuse of blue screen technology (which was definitely in its early days). We also discuss the latest season 10 trailer and dive into a bit of speculation as to what to expect in less than a month!

It’s Neither of Them
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week, we’re joined by Pete Lambert and Conrad Westmaas for a social history of Elizabethan England, a whirlwind tour of the life and works of Shakespeare, and some serious criticism of Martha’s taste in men. It’s Tuesday, so this must be Hamlet — it’s The Shakespeare Code.
Notes and links
Conrad has two recommendations for you. For a straightforward guide to Shakespeare’s life and works, see Emma Smith’s This is Shakespeare.
And for an equally useful introduction to Shakespeare, here’s Julian and Sandy’s Bona Bookshop.
For a history of some of the African immigrants living in London in this period, Pete recommends Miranda Kaufmann’s Black Tudors.

Nathan is on Twitter as @nathanbottomley, Brendan is @brandybongos, Pete is @Prof_Quiteamess and Conrad is @HairoftheHound_. The Flight Through Entirety theme was arranged by Cameron Lam, and the strings performance was by Jane Aubourg. You can follow the podcast on Twitter at @FTEpodcast.
We’re also on Facebook, and you can check out our website at flightthroughentirety.com. Please consider rating or reviewing us on iTunes, or we will do such things — what they are yet I know not — but they shall be the terrors of the earth.

Metebelis 2 #34 - Breathing Life Into Cliches
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2In anticipation of Nardole joining the time team, the Metebelis 2 take a quick look at his predecessors in the TARDIS and ask which male companions worked for them and which didn't quite make the cut. The two also express their admiration of Ian Marter's time on the show. Intro music is from Murray Gold's score for "The Husbands of River Song". Exit music is "Futile Escape" composed by Dudley Simpson for "Genesis of the Daleks" and performed by Heathcliff Blair. Plus a bonus soundbite from Matt Lucas talking about Nardole, recorded December 2016 on the One Show on BBC.
