Fans of nightmarish creatures from beyond the dawn of time will enjoy Quatermass and the Pit, a BBC television programme from 1959 featuring, um, nightmarish creatures from beyond the dawn of time.

The Stone Tape was a 1972 television play by the author of Quatermass, about, you know, totally scary things. It’s available on YouTube. You can also find a recent radio version, starring the lovely Jane Asher, here.

Sapphire and Steel was a crazily fascinating and boring ITV science fiction series from the 1970s and 80s, starring Joanna Lumley and David McCallum. And, of course, there’s a Big Finish version of the series, but it can’t be found anywhere on their website for rights reasons, probably.

Survivors is a hilarious 1970s TV series, written by Terry Nation, in which a horrible plague wipes out everyone except Dennis Lill, his moustache, and a small number of other middle class people. But at least Patrick Troughton is in an episode.

The terribly handsome actor who plays Stael in this story also plays Carnell in the Blakes 7 episode Weapon. He goes on to reprise his role in a totally-not-Big-Finish series of audio dramas by Magic Bullet Productions.

Good day Who fans, this is episode 63. Some waffle, some rants, some news and our review of The Zygon Invasion – good times! Let’s get stuck in.

The News

Peter Capaldi was on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show on Wednesday morning and while chatting generally about Who, he did mention that Clara would be departing before the end of the series and that it would be very sad indeed. Tissues at the ready.

Jenna Coleman has been added to the upcoming Official Festival in London next weekend and we were even offered photo ops. Trouble is, the online system wasn’t great for this with lots of complaints to the BBC Festival twitter account. If anyone got a photo op with Jenna send us the pic.

Toys “R” Us are going to release an exclusive line of 5″ figures from Character. It’s a bit cheeky in a way as some of them are re-released in a newer box but the McGann figure looks awesome along with a couple of the Capaldi figures.

“The Zygon Invasion” Review

We’ve been looking forward to this story since it was announced before series 9 started, who doesn’t love a good Zygon? Here we see them putting their master plan into action to take over the world but does The Doctor have enough to stop them this time?

The 8th Doctor faces off against a new foe, The Eleven, a Time Lord with all of his previous incarnations still living in his head! After that, we go back and see what happened when the 8th Doctor returned from the Divergent Universe in Terra Firma by Joseph Lidster. Finally, we see the brilliant Evelyn Smythe take leave of the TARDIS in Thicker Than Water by Paul Sutton. It's a loaded episode, that's for sure! The Oncoming Storm... This time, we've got no Star Wars take for a change! That should last all of an episode or two.
