173 A WORLD OF DEMONS_ THE VILLAINS OF DOCTOR WHO INTERVIEW
The Legend of the Traveling Tardis with Christian BaselON THIS EPISODE We interview the authors of "A WORLD OF DEMONS: THE VILLAINS OF DOCTOR WHO," including Hannah Friedman, Ken Deep and Barnaby Edwards.
In their own words:
"A World of Demons: The Villains of Doctor Who”“One may tolerate a world of demons for the sake of an angel”—Jean-Antoninette (“Reinette”) Poisson, aka Madame de Pompadour, “The Girl in the Fireplace”What a world of demons Doctor Who has presented us with over the past seven decades: from Daleks and Cybermen to Weeping Angels and the Silence, the greatest villains of the Who-niverse have achieved an iconic status all their own, cementing themselves in the minds of millions of viewers (why else would Parker Brothers have devised a version of Monopoly after them?). If, as the Seventh Doctor once said, "You can always judge a man by the quality of his enemies,” the Doctor is great indeed, rescuing the universe time and again from some of the most formidable and terrifying villains in science fiction history. Now, for the first time, an entire anthology of essays is dedicated to deconstructing this gallery of blackguards. Who are the greatest Who villains of all time? Why are they so frightening? And—apologies to Shakespeare—what do they tell us about the villainy of our own fears?Featuring essays by Joseph Dougherty (executive producer, Pretty Little Liars; producer, thirtysomething), Steven Ashby, Anton Binder, Sarah Corey, Ken Deep, Jan Fennick, Hannah Friedman, Mark Givens, Nancy Hutchins, Jennie Jarvis, Don Klees, Chris Kocher, Robin Koman, Charles Martin, Michael Robinson, Steve Sautter, and Shane Thomas.Edited by David Bushman (Conversations with Mark Frost) and Barnaby Edwards (president, Doctor Who New York)

5.10 Legacy of the Daleks (EDA 10)
Doctor Who - Pieces of EighthTHEY'RE BACK! We'd waited years for a new Dalek story, and then two came along in the space of six months in the EDAs!
Today, we put Legacy of the Daleks under the microscope, as editor Steve Cole tells us how he picked it up from his predecessor Nuala Buffini, and author John Peel (not that one) tells us about writing for the Eighth Doctor, Susan, David Campbell, the aftermath of the Dalek Invasion of Earth... and the Master!
It's an interesting insight...

5.7 Kursaal (EDA 7)
Doctor Who - Pieces of EighthTHERE'S no need to cry wolf - just tune in to this episode of Pieces of Eighth!
We've got werewolves in a fun park, as author Peter Anghelides and BBC Books Eighth Doctor Adventures range editor Steve Cole join us, to tell us about this novel, from 2008.
And, trivia fans - The Kursaal is a Grade II listed building in Southend-on-Sea, in Essex, England, which opened in 1901 as part of one of the world's first purpose-built amusement parks. The venue is noted for the main building with distinctive dome, designed by George Campbell Sherrin, which has featured on a Royal Mail special edition stamp. In 1998 the main Kursaal building was reopened after a multi million-pound redevelopment by the Rowallan Group containing a bowling alley, a casino and other amusements. The building originally contained a McDonald's, but the fast food chain left in 2008.
The bowling alley closed permanently in 2019, and the casino closed permanently in 2020. This currently leaves only a Tesco Express store occupying part of this historic building.

Episode 53 - Underworld (with Frazer Gregory)
Doctor Who LiteratureThis has been a fraught week on the Internet, on Twitter especially, so we open with an unscripted monologue on the subject.
Some background reading on the odious Joe Rogan, my fellow Spotify podcaster.
A link to Judd Apatow's 2015 anthology, Sick in the Head, an excerpt from which is read on the program. No copyright infringement is intended. This episode features Mouret's Rondeau, best known in the US as the theme to PBS's "Masterpiece Theater".
My guest this week is the great Frazer Gregory (@FelixFrazer). We discuss Underworld (the week's book and its parent TV episode), but also Warriors of the Deep and the Doctor Who Rubbish Monsters Advent Calendar. There are dramatic readings, and there's a game -- but not the game you were expecting."Doctor Who and the Underworld" features cover art by Bill Donohoe.

5.3 The Bodysnatchers (EDA 3)
Doctor Who - Pieces of EighthWHAT'S THAT, you say? Pieces of Eighth covering the EDA The Bodysnatchers? But haven't you already done that in season two?!
Why yes, yes we have, dear listener, but we're not going to short change you for your time. We've gone back to scratch, re-edited the content and added all-new material, including a chat with range editor Steve Cole, Doctor Who Magazine reviewer and Eighth Doctor superfan Matt Michael, and added a second reading from Mark Morris' 1997 novel.
So yes, it's a good old remix - we've retained the original interview and reading from first time around, so this should be an all-new experience. Mostly!
