Corneal abrasions! Lingering colds! Microphone issues! Travel Delays! And that's just for the podcasters! Also, THE EAST WIND! MUSGRAVE! And, perhaps, our last adventure with Sherlock Holmes and John Watson (for now and for this incarnation)! It's all there as MUTTER'S SPIRAL Podcast tackles "The Final Problem", the final episode of SHERLOCK'S (FINAL?) season!

This episode generates some strong opinions from us, and we don't view everything as positively as at other times! However, as always, Sherlock episodes make for great fodder for discussion. We talk about the story and about how it fits into the overall narrative of the series, and how it affects everything we've seen previously. We'll contemplate what worked for us, as well as what didn't.

Plus, there's some trivia, and even some REVERSE TRIVIA about the sneaky cameo in the final moments ("Struggle after Struggle, year after year")! Please take a listen!

    Remember: WE ARE SOLDIERS TODAY.

(technical note: due to the aforementioned microphone issues, the sound is a little wonky, but still listenable)

    12:52 (GMT) - 20 Jan 2017

Synopsis This title was released in January 2017. It will be exclusively available to buy from the BF website until March 31st 2017, and on general sale after this date. London, 2005. Yvonne Hartman is the undisputed head of Torchwood One. Above the government, beyond the police, she has excellent people skills; enjoys regular tea with the Queen; and effortlessly defends the British Empire from alien threats. Yvonne Hartman is excellent at her job, and inspires devotion in everyone who works with her - until, one day, she makes a terrible mistake. We all make mistakes. But only at Torchwood can a single mistake plunge your world into interstellar war. Yvonne Hartman's facing the fight of her life. One she's going to win. New Girl by Joseph Lidster "They've been coming to us for years. And we've been kept in the dark. My name's Rachel Allan. And I'm Torchwood" It's Rachel Allan's first day at Torchwood. Torchwood only takes the brightest and the best - and Rachel's wondering if Yvonne Hartman's made a terrible mistake in picking her. Plunged into a world of alien invasions and office politics, Rachel's desperate to fit in. For one thing, she really wants this job. And, for another, she knows what happens at Torchwood if you fail. Through The Ruins by Jenny T Colgan "Ianto, please. It's all... it's all gone wrong. I don't know what to think any more." Away Days at Torchwood aren't what you'd expect. Yes, there's the forced camaraderie, the team-building exercises, and the chance for long-held rivalries to boil over. But Torchwood Away Days also have the potential to get very lethal very quickly. Yvonne Hartman's extremely worried by this year's Away Day. But she's got other things on her mind - something's very wrong with Torchwood. Uprising by Matt Fitton "Torchwood. It's taken the best part of a month, but I've finally got things running how they should be. How they should have been all along. " Torchwood has experienced some radical changes, but things are finally settling down. Everyone has pulled together and is trying to put the past behind them. Well, except for Yvonne Hartman - she's out to win the future. There's one problem. Someone seems to have started an interstellar war. Someone who knows Torchwood from the inside out. Running Through Corridors Volume 2. IN A NUTSHELL 1970s Doctor Who is revisited, reviewed and re-evaluated in the second volume of this fan favourite. REVIEW Long, long ago, (OK, it was 2009, the first gap year since Doctor Whos return to our screens in 2005), two men gave themselves a quest. Too boldly watch and write about every single episode of our favourite television show in the space of a single year... And It is fitting that in 2016 the year second great gap year, that volume two has finally materialised into our book shelves. For those of us who have been living on the dark side of the moon (or egg - depending on your personal canon) who may not have read the first "Running Through Corridors" you have missed a treat. Volume One covered the 1960s while this volume covers the 1970s and a third volume should cover everything else up to the end of the Tenth Doctors tenure. Authors/friends Rob Sherman. (Dalek/Chimes of midnight) and Toby Hadoke. (Moths Ate my Doctor Who Scarf, whosround and more DVD extras than you can shake a stick at) are not only watching every episode of our favourite show but also finding positive and witty things to say about each and everyone. Received fan wisdom is often a welcome casualty of this reasonably mammoth tome. There is nothing but love on display here. Its the love you have for a member of your own family, forgiving and all embracing. Emphasising the positive, while accepting that nothing is perfect - even City of Death. The only thing that could make this will any better be the immediate release of Volume three. It may it may have taken have taken years of this book to finally arrive but it was definitely worth the wait. Just don't ask Rob when Volume Three will be out. No one likes to see a grown author cry. INSERT ITEM INFO. End of review

Originally intending to review “The Return of Doctor Mysterio”, we get slightly sidetracked by listing what Doctor Who goodies we got for Christmas. Then Hayden regales us with a tale of his Christmas visit to The Centre for Computing History in Cambridge where he discovered playable games consoles and games from his youth.

Eventually, we leave the subject of the 90s Doctor Who pinball game and the Activision Ghostbusters game from the 80s and turn to chatting about the latest Doctor Who Christmas Special.

Along the way, we discover Peter Cushing’s unusual hobby, we keep finding William Russell in the seasonal TV fare, and we look back to a very early podcast where we covered an early computer game featuring the voices of Jon Pertwee and Ian Dury.

What happens when the only person who can help may be located billions of miles away? Lee Shackleford answers that question in his upcoming serial, Relativity. What is Relativity? Lee crafts a journey for our minds and ears within the steel walls of the spaceship Konyechny. It’s a story set in the not-too-distant future about two people – a woman on Earth at Mission Control and a single man aboard the ship. Lee, like his character within the serial, joins me as we discuss some of what he has planned for he and his co-star Alana Jordan as Relativity unfolds. All this PLUS listener feedback!

"If anything happens, let me know."

What do you get if you have two episodes to fill with no guest actors and no new sets?

Well in the weird world of Lime Grove 1964, you get The Edge of Destruction - a veritable cryptic crossword with clues from another, different cryptic crossword.

This is, of course, the one where Susan turns scissor sister, Ian seems to have been at the BBC brown ale, the Doctor - even with a head wound - still wins Gallifrey's Fastest Butler and poor old Babs has to hold it all together, despite her pathological fear of Salvador Dali.

Even the Fornicator can't help them as they try to discover what the heck is going on (and what the writer has been smoking) until, finally, the solution springs to mind.

So can Jim and Martin make sense of the sentient ship's clues or will the story leave them on the edge of nervous destruction?

    Find out here.

Well in the weird world of Lime Grove 1964, you get The Edge of Destruction - a veritable cryptic crossword with clues from another, different cryptic crossword.

This is, of course, the one where Susan turns sinister scissor sister, Ian seems to have been at the TARDIS brown ale, the Doctor - even with a head wound - still wins Gallifrey's Fastest Butler, and poor old Babs has to hold it all together, despite her pathological fear of Salvador Dali.
