#187 - Linear Geezers
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2The pace quickens for the Doctor and Nova in the middle episode of Big Finish's Ravagers which we listened to this week. Ben found the timey-wimey plot lines a bit confusing, but is intrigued by what might be going on with Audrey. David thought author Nick Briggs was doing well weaving together RTD and Moffat styles and really hopes Nova (and Audrey) will still be alive by the story's conclusion. Join us this week as we talk about Cataclysm! Opening and closing music is from the Ravagers score composed by Howard Carter. We recorded this episode on 25 May 2021.

Episode 53: Lords of the Storm
The Doctor Who Book Club Podcast2015 should be labeled "Two McIntees for the Price of One"; after our discussion of The Shadow of Weng-Chiang a few months ago, we set our sights on another Virgin Missing Adventure written by McIntee, Lords of the Storm, featuring the Fifth Doctor, Turlough, and the Sontarans. From the back cover:
'They've been fighting this war for longer than man has been walking upright, and they don't take prisoners.'
The war between the Sontarans and the Rutans has been raging for millennia. Billions have died and whole star systems have been obliterated in the conflict. Now, finally, one side may have victory within its grasp.
The human colony world of Raghi is crucial to that victory. When the Doctor and Turlough arrive there, they find a seemingly stable society ruled by a strict caste system. But all is not as it seems. Members of the lower caste are being struck down by a mysterious illness. People are vanishing in their hundreds. And strange objects have been observed oribiting the sun.
Why is Raghi so important to the feuding alien empires? And how high a price will the galaxy pay if the conflict comes to an end?
Lords of the Storm is remarkable in that not only is it one of the few books to feature the Sontarans or Turlough, but is a prequel to the Virgin New Adventure Shakedown. As part of a shart arc, we will discussing Shakedown in Episode 54 next month.

Ep 98 - Big Monster Madness Face-Off Thingy
GeeklecticIf you've ever wondered "which antagonistic characters should return in the next series of Doctor Who, and is there a way we can determine that through a March Madness style sports bracket system, complete with music someone ripped from a 1999 Jock Jams CD," then this episode of the Coal Hill A/V Club podcast is for you! (with Andy, Stephen, Dustin, and eventually one of the other ones, too.) This one gets a bit Vervoid-y, if you catch my drift, so let's go ahead and give it a strong PG-13/mind R rating. Probably NSFW, unless you work in a den of iniquity, like - say - an adult video store or a horticultural lab. Twitter: @coalhillavclub E-mail: podcast@coalhill.com (Credit is due to Youtuber "OzzyMandez" for their mashup of the Doctor Who/Space Jam themes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ty9CpKjXuhg)

As part of a short arc, we will discussing Shakedown in Episode 54 next month.

MUTTER'S SPIRAL Podcast 132 - "The Lie of the Land"
Mutter's Spiral PodcastMUTTER'S SPIRAL Podcast this week addresses "The Lie of the Land", the finale to the Monks trilogy, written by Toby Whithouse and directed by Wayne Yip. We were both less than enthused by this episode individually as well as in its role as the culmination of the three-part story. We will go in depth about what didn't work at all for us (as well as some stuff we did like - Missy, Bill's Mom). John also makes some good points about how and why the trilogy doesn't hold together for him (nor me). I lament the loss of the early-season momentum and express my dislike of the Monks in general as foes for the Doctor. There's also trivia, of course!

069: The Invasion
The Krynoid Podcast"Isobel... where are yoooouuu?"
Come to that, where is Scooby Doo? Shouldn't he be with those crazy kids in the Big Smoke's syewers (sic) trying to take shots of scary Cyberm'n (one of them's sick).
It's all because of The Invasion, masterminded by perma-winking Tobias Vaughn and his woefully inept sidekick (and arse-kick), Packer.
The Doctor has an eye for a photo opportunity, courtesy of our snappy flapper, but Jamie proves not to be as photogenic as Zoe's spangly bottom, despite his family-friendly weighted kilt. And the jury's still out as to whether his dirk is more impressive than Jimmy's chopper.
Does Cyber-Plan B make any sense? Why hasn't Vaughn killed Packer several times by now? And should we petition Philip Morris to recover those missing action sequences?
See if anything "has been agreeed" by Jim and Martin in this mammoth episode.
You'll need the stamina of a Cyberm'n to listen to it all.
