Episode 206: Sea of Leeches
Trust Your DoctorThis is the uncrossable leech sea.
This is it. We finally made it to the very first episode that Dylan watched of Doctor Who. Well before this podcast was even a glimmer in either of their eyes, there was The Next Doctor. It was written by Russell T. Davies and aired on December 25, 2008.
Show-notes:
10:09 Labyrinth is a Jim Henson movie starring David Bowie.
16:56 I guess nobody really knows how long the London area has been inhabited, but it’s definitely thousands of years.
20:12 Thomas Paine’s most famous revolutionary pamphlets are Common Sense and American Crisis.
28:15 It’s called a belt.
36:14 Simulacra and Simulation is a book by Baudrillard.
53:22 Here’s Stephen Fry’s language rant (actually part of a larger essay).

The Doctor Who Show S03 E06 - Season 5 and fan opinion
The Doctor Who ShowThe fifth season of Doctor Who began on 2 September 1967 with The Tomb of the Cybermen and ended on 1 June 1968 with The Wheel in Space. Only 22 out of 40 episodes are held in the BBC archives; 18 remain missing. As result only 2 serials exist entirely.
Rob and Dave discuss each episode of Season 5 briefly, examine fan opinion past and present, and also ponder if each story is a "base under siege" adventure, as fan theories suggest.
Of course they also rip into some current Doctor Who news and events beforehand and hope you enjoy the episode!

Classic Rewatch: Tomb of the Cybermen
Gallifrey Public Radio - A Doctor Who PodcastThere are Doctor Who stories that you keep on a short list of those to recommend to the uninitiated or under-exposed, in hopes of winning them over to the fandom. Often these stories have a solid amount of explanation for newcomers, a solid plot and conflict to hold interest, and a degree of plausibility that will keep skeptics and critics at bay. There are also those installments of DW that are one's personal favourites, for a myriad of reasons, that may not be sound candidates for the aforementioned 'introductory' list, because they either rely too heavily on existing knowledge of the characters and relationships, are not approachable enough for the uninitiated, or are not ideal representatives of the series as a whole. Sometimes, however, the paths converge, and you have an adventure that is nothing short of wonderful for any viewer. This week, we revel in the simple perfection that is the fifth season classic, 'Tomb of the Cybermen'. Enjoying peak performances from Patrick Troughton and Frazer Hines, a thorough but not overly complex script from Pedler and Davis, great supporting cast, and a thoroughly enjoyable 'upgrade' to our titular villains, it is a staple of our new viewer recommendations, and simultaneously one of our most treasured classic Doctor Who adventures. Tiny Little Petty Flaws
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week, the Mara are back, threatening the ancient BBC Television studio Manussa in Snakedance. Roll your eyes at Nathan’s usual jejune insults, marvel at Brendan’s theories about good Science Fiction, and become increasingly concerned at Todd’s vociferous complaints that no one gets horribly murdered in Doctor Who any more.
Buy the story!
Snakedance was released on DVD in 2011. In the US, it was released on its own (Amazon US), but in the UK and Australia it was released along with Kinda in the Mara Tales box set (Amazon UK).
Notes and links
Richard’s not here this week, so there’s almost no German Expressionism, and very little intertextuality. Nathan mentions Sandifer’s take on this story, as usual, so perhaps you’ll want to go and read that.
Todd refers to the Flight Through Entirety Kinda lovefest, which is the pun-tastic Episode 79: Kinda Lingers.
Follow us!
Brendan is on Twitter as @brandybongos, Nathan is @nathanbottomley, Todd is @toddbeilby, and Richard is @RichardLStone. The Flight Through Entirety theme was arranged by Cameron Lam. You can follow the podcast on Twitter at @FTEpodcast.
We’re also on Facebook, and you can check out our website at flightthroughentirety.com. Please consider rating or reviewing us on iTunes, or we’ll sneer at you and make dismissive remarks about your shoddy little booth.
Doctor Who in 10 Seconds
With the release of Season 6 of Doctor Who in 10 Seconds Series 6, Brendan has now summarised every Doctor Who story of the 1960s. The 70s will only be more hilarious, so to prepare yourself, why not revisit the show in its entirety by checking out the playlist on YouTube?
Bondfinger
Well, our commentary on Moonraker has now been released, and some of our more deranged critics have described it as our best episode over. Other commentary tracks are also available, including The Spy Who Loved Me, The Man with the Golden Gun and Live and Let Die. Our website now hosts no less than 12 James Bond commentaries; you can also keep up with all the Bondfinger news on Twitter and Facebook.
