What did they find in addition were drunken Scotsmen, no cars of vanity and Phil trying to convince Paul of a what he believes to be a major change to one of the characters.

Of course he's going to need to borrow a body, which he can also make look like the Doctor (while keeping the real thing tucked away in a time bubble). Not that a little Chronic Hysteresis Loop will stop the Doctor.
