    11:00 (GMT) - 14 Feb 2016

So, we’ve all taken several hits of vraxoin, which means that we really enjoyed this week’s story, in spite of the sets, the script, most of the performances and the ham-fisted anti-drugs message. It’s Nightmare of Eden!

    Buy the story!

Nightmare of Eden was released on DVD as recently as 2012. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)

In 1983, First Lady Nancy Reagan was in the throes of her Just Say No campaign, in which she made numerous television appearances warning the American people about the dangers of drugs. Horrifically, she guested on an episode of Diff’rent Strokes in order to patronise Gary Coleman’s entire class.

Fans of the fabulous model work in this story, along with everyone else, will enjoy the Blakes 7 episode Gold. (It’s worth mentioning at this point that Blakes 7 is now available on YouTube in its entirety. So why are you wasting your time on this podcast, for God’s sake?)

Amii Stewart’s 1979 music video for her hit single Knock On Wood has nearly many psychedelic video effects as this story’s Episode 3 cliffhanger.

In 1980, Lalla Ward played Ophelia in the BBC Season of Shakespeare’s version of Hamlet. Hamlet himself was played by Derek Jacobi, Doctor Who’s very own Professor Yana. (We love Lalla, but she’s really terrible in this.)

    Bondfinger

Bondfinger has just released its Casino Royale (1967) commentary, but, to be honest, you’ll need to take a lot of vraxoin in order to get through that film. Still, we also have more sensible commentaries on You Only Live Twice (1967), Thunderball (1965), Goldfinger (1964), From Russia With Love (1963), and Dr. No (1962). You can keep up with the Bondfinger news on our website, as well as on Twitter and Facebook.

Big Blue Box Podcast - Episode 77

Hey Who fans, it’s episode 77. Without further ado, news and reviews awaits so… allons-y!

    The News

Steven Moffat has bagged himself an OBE! Yes, still current show runner was given the award in this years honours for his services to drama and we think it’s thoroughly deserved. We may not have agreed with or liked all of Moffat’s decisions during his time as head writer but you can’t argue with his tireless dedication and work ethic.

You may remember a couple of weeks ago we told you about a Kickstarter project to bring the classic Doctor Who pinball machine into a digital format. Well, it’s not reached 100% of it’s funding goal, woo-hoo! Awesome job to those who backed this, we can’t wait to play it.

Series 10 is underway! Yes, pre-production is getting into motion and filming begins this May. It’s good to know that things are still happening and they’re nearly into filming, here’s looking forward to those official pics from the production team.

    “42” Review

Series 3 is generally considered pretty good but this story is often overlooked. Claustrophobic, suspense and eery possession make this an interesting concept plus it’s well times as it was Chris Chibnall’s first story for Who. Are we impressed or running from the sun with this one?

Thank you for listening, next week we go old school as we travel back to the Hartnell years so look out for the post on Facebook, we always look forward to your thoughts. Until then week – Allons-y!

In which we fawn over the Last Centurion. That dude is dreamy. As. FUCK.

On this week's episode, Danica and Brandon are starting a project that will take them twisting all the way through 2016: The River Song Timeline Re-Watch. Or whatever it was we said when we were drunk. If we even said anything. It all starts with "A Good Man Goes To War" (Series 6, Episode 7) and then goes straight into other things on television. Or rather, it stumbles there. We were preeeeetttty drunk, you guys.

Outro music is "Formation" by Beyonce.

Citadel 4Hayden brings us the second in his occasional series of “Podcasters Assemble” where he chats to a dazzling international array of fellow Doctor Who podcasters and tries to understand what makes them tick.

This week, we hear Erika (for it is she) Ensign from the “Verity!” podcast, Marc (for it is he) Atkinson from the “Progtor Who” podcast, Christian (for it is he) Cawley from “The Podkast With a K” and Phil (for it is he) Cannon from the “Who’s He?” podcast.

You may by now have noticed that we’re pushing for the formal introduction of “(for it is s/he)” as a title for Doctor Who podcasters, the Jedi Knights of fandom. On the subject of which, we close this week’s podcast with a little tribute to another knight of the airwaves.

(The international flavour of this week’s artwork comes courtesy of friend of the show, Simon (for it is he) Brett of the Blue Box Podcast.)

    SHOWNOTES

(00:00:00) Our Pandemonium themed intro has been illustrated by friend of the show Simon (for it is he) Brett of the Blue Box Podcast who can claim to be one of the four original parents of the Diddly Dum Podcast. If we are the Prince Caspian of Doctor Who podcasting, just think of the Blue Boxers as Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. Simon’s Facebook page can be found here and his website is here. The summit of his broadcasting career of course came in 2014 when he visited The Whoseum in Diddly Dum Podcast 017 (“Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings”).

(00:02:04) Hayden’s first guest this week is Erika (for it is she) Ensign of the “Verity!” podcast.

(00:29:15) Hayden’s second guest this week is Marc (for it is he) Atkinson of the “Progtor Who” podcast and band Riversea.

(00:57:06) Hayden’s third guest this week is Christian (for it is he) Cawley of the “Podkast With a K”.

(01:21:38) Hayden’s fourth guest this week is Phil (for it is he) Cannon of the “Who’s He?” podcast.

(01:52:10) We round off this week’s podcast with a tribute to two men who have been lost to broadcasting since we recorded our last podcast. Few Doctor Who fans’ lives have not at some stage been touched by titan of the airwaves, Sir Terry Wogan. Terry encountered many stars of Doctor Who during his interviewing career and of course his years as the great helmsman of the BBC’s Children in Need. Terry interviews Colin Baker here and interviews Jon Pertwee here. “The Five Doctors” 20th anniversary special was broadcast in the UK on Children in Need night and, after the closing credits, Terry met the then current Doctor, Peter Davidson here. He met half the stars of Doctor Who during the 1985 Children in Need night here. Our musical tribute is a clip from Terry’s 1978 recording of “The Floral Dance” which reached Number 1 in the British charts. He tries to keep his face straight in this “Top of the Pops” appearance from the time. We also recently lost Ed “Stewpot” Stewart, DJ and (to Doc’s generation) presenter of “Crackerjack” (Crackerjack).

I’ve been told that having fun is pretty great.

This is a very special episode of Trust Your Doctor. Before I get into that, can I mention how difficult titling this is? “Ft. Flight Through Entirety” is the most space saving way to credit the crossover, but it’s not entirely accurate. We only got two hosts (again) of Flight Through Entirety, although this time it’s Nathan and Richard rather than Nathan and Brendan. It’ll do as a title though, as it is rather representative of the episode anyway. Didn’t I make this same point last time?

Well anyway, this crossover we talk (yet again) about a Doctor Who novel from the wilderness years. Let me stop you again, and rephrase that a bit more accurately. The hosts attempt to talk about a Doctor Who novel, with…. varying degrees of success. This time it’s The English Way of Death, written by Gareth Roberts and published on the 21st of March, 1996. It was recently republished (in 2015) as part of the Doctor Who History Collection, and you can find that republish on Amazon. The English Way of Death takes place immediately after The Romance of Crime (another Gareth Roberts novel), which takes place between Creature From the Pit and Nightmare of Eden.

If you want more Flight Through Entirety (let’s be honest, who wouldn’t?), be sure to check them out at their wonderful internet locales below.
