Episode 43 Sexiest Exposition Trope
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastBrendan, Richard and Nathan enjoy the rare treat of watching a really great episode of 60s television: it's one of Robert Banks Stewart's sources for The Seeds of Doom: a 1966 episode of The Avengers called Man-Eater of Surrey Green.
Watch the show
You can watch Man-Eater of Surrey Green in its entirety here.
Notes and links
If you want to find out all there is to know about The Avengers, take a look here at Avengers Forever.
Future Steed sidekick Linda Thorson appears as a Cardassian in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode [The Chase]( http://en.memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/The_Chase_(episode)), which is otherwise pretty terrible, to be honest.
Joanna Lumley (eventually) played the Doctor in Steven Moffat's The Curse of Fatal Death, a Comic Relief special broadcast in 1999.
In the Thin Man films, including Thin Man (1934) and its five sequels, a detective and his wife, played by William Powell and Myrna Loy, have a lovely time solving mysteries together. It's terribly good, apparently.
We'll be back next week with The Masque of Mandragora.

Big Blue Box Podcast - Episode 54
The Doctor Who Big Blue Box PodcastHello you lot. Episode 54 drops a huge news story this week and then we’re onto our review of what seems like an often forgotten episode from series 1.
The News
We’ve been thinking about this and wondering if it will happen for a while and now we have confirmation – River Song is back! The BBC have officially announced that River will be back for this year’s Christmas Special starring alongside Peter Capaldi. We’re not sure on River’s involvement past the Christmas Special and this is the only episode currently featuring the character that we’re aware of. Christmas is certainly looking to be a belter.
While Big Finish are pumping out some amazing audio plays we can’t forget some of the great BBC Audio books that have graced our ears. Coming this September are two interesting looking titles; The Two Doctors read by none other than Colin Baker and The Curse of Fenric read by Terry Molloy. These sound cool and worth checking out.
Rejoice! The long awaited troubled DVD The Underwater Menace has finally come up for pre-order on the BBC Shop site. Priced at PS13.99 it should be released on the 26th October. If you want a signed copy by Anneke Wills you can pre-order from her site for slightly more at PS18.99.
“Boom Town” Review
Ah Boom Town, the often misplaced episode from Who’s return in 2005. Viewed as a filler story before the two-part finale that follows can it redeem itself and go out with a boom or just fizzle out like a faulty extrapolator?
This week’s trivia question
Last episode we asked you – In Enlightenment. What is the name of Captain Striker’s ship? The answer is – Metropolitan Magazine.
This week’s question is – Which story did Roger Delgado’s wife provide her voice? Give us your answer in the comments below or post it on Twitter or Facebook. Good luck!
You guys were fantastic this week, thanks for all your comments and views. Next week we’re scoffing jelly babies as we review Tom Baker story The Deadly Assassin. Have a wonderful week and remember – Allons-y!

DIDDLY DUM PODCAST 040 - Kevin Davies
Diddly Dum PodcastThis week we turn over the microphone to Hayden for a whacking big interview with Kevin (for it is he) Davies, the director and producer of “30 Years in the TARDIS”, Doctor Who’s 30th anniversary special, and “More Than…30 Years in the TARDIS”, its expanded VHS release. Kevin has also worked on features covering the “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, “Blake’s 7”, the Dalekmania movies and lots more.
Join us for a roller coaster ride along the making of the anniversary special which is burned into the memories of a generation. Hear how an everyday piece of 1970s technology weighing no more than a mere house brick won a 17 year old Kevin an introduction to Douglas Adams and led to him working alongside our Hitchhiking heroes.
Gasp along with Ian Levine as Kevin unveils to the fan they can’t ban the missing 6 seconds clip from Power of the Daleks which he found. Howl with impotent rage as Kevin reveals that he keeps hidden in a secret Wigan warehouse every can of RAF Open Day film which features one of the Doctors, carefully guarding them from all eyes, waiting for what he calls “the right price” (it’s a Hitchhiker’s line, folks). Hold your breath along with us as we wait to hear if Kevin manages to effect an accidental reunion between Jennie Linden, Roberta Tovey and the man who brought dedication (it’s a Record Breakers line, folks) to the nation, the man who made the Television Centre fountain immortal, Roy Castle.

SHOWNOTES
In truth Kevin’s middle name is Jon, not “For it is He”. Kevin is of course the TV director behind “30 Years in the TARDIS” and “More Than…30 Years in the TARDIS.” But his involvement in top British cult sci-fi doesn’t stop there. He has also directed documentaries on “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” and the Dalekmania movies. Kevin has made videos in which Douglas Adams explains how the animated computer graphics on the Hitchhiker’s TV series worked.
(00:31:30) Tom Baker and Frank Bough in conversation.
(00:43:30) Craig Ferguson in his earlier incarnation as Bing Hitler.
(01:14:25) In September 1965, First Doctor William Hartnell visited RAF Finningley in Yorkshire as part of the Battle of Britain Open Day.
(01:21:00) The surviving Dalek clips from “Power of the Daleks”.
(01:32:50) To Doctor Who fans, Roy Castle is probably best known as the actor who played Ian in the 1965 Peter Cuushing film “Doctor Who and the Daleks“. But to those of Kevin’s and Doc’s generation (cue sound effect of zimmer frames), Roy was a titan of BBC entertainment, especially children’s entertainment. He hosted “Record Breakers” for over 20 years, a show whose most memorable moment for a whole generation was the breaking of the world record for the largest tap dance which took place around the fountain at the heart of BBC Television Centre.

Ep-42: Here Comes the Sun, Deedle-Deedle Dee
Playing Doctor: A Doctor Who PodcastBack from an exciting weekend at Intervention 6 Jennie and Ben didn’t even have time to unpack before they were off to the Kempsville Area Library in Virginia Beach to record a live show as part of the library’s “Evening of the Doctor” program. As always the crew had a great time visiting with their library friends.
One of the events during the Evening was a vote for your favorite companion. The results were rather interesting:
- Donna Noble
- Ponds (both)
- Sarah Jane Smith
There were some interesting responses added, such as: Handles, K9, and "Not Clara".
This week Jennie and Ben discuss the third season episode “42” which coincidentally is the 42nd episode of the Playing Doctor Podcast. The Doctor and Martha land on a spaceship that’s about to crash into a sun in– wait for it — forty-two minutes. A mysterious “infection” threatens to kill the crew before they have a chance to crash and burn in the sun. Their only hope is to know their Beatles trivia and avoid escape pods.
Special thanks go out to Librarian Denise Walker and Crystal Parker for inviting us to the show and once again putting up with our antics. We really enjoyed ourselves and were honored to once again be asked to participate in the evening's events.
If you're in the area be sure to check out some of the other fun events at the Kempsville Area Library.

Ep 85 - Snack Orchid (The Adric Story)
Doctor Who: Verity! This week it's Lynne's turn to pick a companion-tastic story, and bafflingly, she chose Nyssa in "Black Orchid". Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Lynne as we discuss all the companions in "Black Orchid". Lynne does have some strong reasons why Nyssa shines here. Deb thinks it's a stronger Tegan story. And Erika discovers it's her new favorite Adric story. It may be a short story, but with the crowded TARDIS of the fifth Doctor era, there are lots of companions to go around!
What do you think of this story? Would you have picked a different Nyssa story? Or can you think of other reasons this is a goor one for her? And do you find Adric boring? Charming? Annoying? Let us know in the comments!
And remember, you have about a week left to contribute to the Uncanny Magazine Year Two Kickstarter and make an extra difference thanks to an amazing Verity! listener!
