Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a 2017 American epic space opera film written and directed by Rian Johnson. It is the second film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, following Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015). The film is produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, and Gwendoline Christie in returning roles, with Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern, and Benicio del Toro joining the cast. It also marks the final performance of Fisher, who died in December 2016, with the film being dedicated in her memory.

The film was announced after Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in October 2012. It is produced by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman, with Force Awakens director J. J. Abrams as an executive producer. John Williams, composer for the previous seven films, returns to compose the score. Scenes that required shooting at Skellig Michael in Ireland were filmed during pre-production in September 2015, with principal photography beginning at Pinewood Studios in England in February 2016 and ending in July 2016. Post-production wrapped up in September 2017.

The Last Jedi had its world premiere in Los Angeles on December 9, 2017, and was released in the United States on December 15, 2017. The film received highly positive reviews, with praise for its plot, ensemble cast, action scenes, visual effects, musical score and emotional weight. Some critics considered it the best film of the franchise since The Empire Strikes Back.

A sequel, provisionally titled Star Wars: Episode IX, is scheduled for December 20, 2019.

On this weeks podcast, Phil and Paul travel back once again to wartime London with a look at The Doctor Dances. This is pretty much a love in as our reviewing pair heap on the praise for this Steven Moffat story and really cannot find anything negative to say about it!

But in the news this week, it's a sad time as we lost both actress Jaqueline Pearce and Production Designer Michael Pickwoad which has shocked and saddened in equal measure.

Also in the news, Big Finish has announced how it will be celebrating its 20th anniversary next year and will series 11 start in September or October?

The Daleks are back at it again, rescuing Davros for reasons, messing about with time, trying to kill the Doctor, betraying Davros. RED PLANETS #REDPLANETS from @BigFinish by @unamccormack Directed by @ImJamieAnderson HATS OFF TO UNA FOR A CRACKING TALE COMPLEX ENOUGH FOR THE KIDS AND EASY ENOUGH TO FOLLOW FOR THE ADULTS. PURE #DOCTORWHO This title was released in August 2018. It will be exclusively available to buy from the BF website until September 30th 2018, and on general sale after this date. London, 2017. Except... it isn't. Berlin, 1961. But it isn't that either. Not really. Not in the timeline the Doctor knows. Something is very wrong. While Ace tries to save the life of a wounded British spy, Mel and the Doctor must get to grips with the modern day socialist Republic of Mokoshia. For Mel it feels strangely familiar and 'right', which makes the Doctor feel even more uneasy. Soon, a message from a dark and blood-soaked distant future is on its way... But the Doctor will have to act fast to stop this timeline becoming reality. And with Ace stranded in an alternate 1961, will saving the Earth end her existence? Erika and Steven wish you a happy Labour Day! As is our wont, we bring you some classic Doctor Who goodness on this long weekend. What better way to celebrate than to finish off a story we both enjoy? While we do have a couple lingering questions about “The Enemy of the World”, we’re quite satisfied by the end.
