Episode 141: Cyberguns Down the Cyberlackeys
Trust Your DoctorCyber. Cyber. Cyber. Cyber.
Yes this week we begin season 22. Season 22 is quite the experience. It’s very violent. And to think it all begins with some cybermen. It’s Attack of the Cybermen, written by Paula Moore and aired in January of 1985.
Show-notes:
13:34 Black Orchid was one of them. I guess. Ok, actually not, but it’s ok. Cause it’s Black Orchid.
18:55 Like that James Bond movie, The Man With the Goldeneye Goldfinger Gun who Only Lives Twice to Live and Never Die Another Day.
30:56 Sweet dreams.
42:27 All in Siberia.

Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week, we’re taking a break from our relentless flight through the entirety of Doctor Who to go back and visit an old favourite. Fire up your VHS player and get ready to listen to all four of us slurring drunkenly throughout the incredible six-episode run of that 1964 Terry Nation classic The Keys of Marinus.
The Flight Through Entirety Troughton Commentary Poll
Thank you to everyone who voted in the Flight Through Entirety Troughton commentary poll, in which our listeners were asked to choose between The Power of the Daleks, The Enemy of the World, The Web of Fear and The Krotons. So who won? Listen to this episode to find out. (The announcement is finally made some time into the third hour of this episode. So you’ll probably never hear it.)
Buy the story!
The Keys of Marinus was released on DVD in 2010. (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
Notes and links
If you’re keen to hear a sober assessment of the literary qualities of The Keys of Marinus and its celebrated indebtedness to German expressionism, then you will undoubtedly enjoy the third ever episode of Flight Through Entirety, from way back in 2014: Episode 2: So Maudlin.

Brendan is on Twitter as @brandybongos, Nathan is @nathanbottomley, Todd is @toddbeilby, and Richard is @RichardLStone. The Flight Through Entirety theme was arranged by Cameron Lam. You can follow the podcast on Twitter at @FTEpodcast.
We’re also on Facebook, and you can check out our website at flightthroughentirety.com. Please consider rating or reviewing us on iTunes, or we’ll all vote for the only six-part story in your podcast fan poll and force you to talk relentless nonsense about a largely forgotten 1960s Doctor Who story for more than two and a half hours.
Doctor Who in 10 Seconds
Doctor Who in 10 Seconds is Brendan’s brilliant video projet, in which he summarises every Doctor Who story in no more than ten seconds. You can see him take on the Keys of Marinus in his first ever episode. To see the rest of the series, which currently covers the first seven seasons of Doctor Who, just check out the playlist on YouTube.
Bondfinger
Our next James Bond commentary will be released next weekend, and in it we’re suprisingly positive about Connery’s weird return to the series in the ill-advised 1983 Thunderball remake Never Say Never Again.
Our back catalogue covers all of the previous James Bond films, from For Your Eyes Only to Dr. No. You can keep up with all the Bondfinger news on Twitter and Facebook.

DIDDLY DUM PODCAST 066 - Ian Marter
Diddly Dum PodcastToday marks the 30th anniversary of the sad early death of that stalwart of Doctor Who’s golden age, Ian Marter. Today would also have been Ian’s 72nd birthday.
In tribute to Ian, we dedicate the whole of this podcast to celebrating his work in acting, writing and switching on Illuminations in seedy Lancastrian seaside resorts.
Along the way, we look at the philosophical chasm between PS4.99 and PS5.00, we translate the Duke of Forgill’s family motto, we compare “Dr Who Meets Scratchman” to “The Boy Who Kicked Pigs” and we look at the sequence of great historical inventors: Heron, Trevithick, Watt, Baker.

Metebelis 2 #15 - Foam is the Blood of Monsters
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2Were there any true horror serials in classic 1960s Doctor Who? Ben and David ask what exactly is horror and what role did it play in the glorious black & white era? In this podcast, they look at horror in Who from the end of "An Unearthly Child" where viewers back in 1963 saw that the following week's episode was "The Cave of Skulls" all the way to 1969 where the use of mind control in "The War Games" was prevalent. Intro music: excerpt from "Music For Strings, Percussion & Celesta, SZ 106 - 3. Adagio" by Bela Bartok, conducted by Ferenc Fricsay, RIAS Symphony Orchestra. Outro music: "Space Time Music, part 2" by Wilfred Josephs. Both pieces were incidental music from "The Web of Fear".

Big Blue Box Podcast - Episode 114
The Doctor Who Big Blue Box PodcastHey Who fans. We have a chock-a-block show this week which includes the latest Doctor Who news, some merch then our review of Class episodes 1 and 2 then onto our normal review which is The Krotons. Phew!
The News
The Power of the Daleks is also coming to cinemas in Australia. Set your calendars for Saturday 12th November as you’ll not only get to see the story in all its glory on the big screen but there’s also a bunch of special features after. Our listeners down under need to head over to the Sharmill Films site to grab your tickets.
A new teaser video has been released showing a tiny bit more about the upcoming Christmas Special. We talk about it a bit more and our feelings on it’s potential success.
Merch
Those of you that have been impressed by Class will be glad to hear that Series 1 is already up for pre-order from Amazon on blu ray and dvd. The release date is 2nd January next year.
“Class: Episodes 1 and 2” Review
A spin-off show is always big news so we’ve dedicated a bit of time to talk through our thoughts and give you a mini-review on the first couple of episodes of Class. Garry has been less than impressed and Adam’s been swayed after his boozy night at the premier but how do we feel about it now? A*’s all round or detention?
“The Krotons” Review
We love the 2nd Doctor so it’s with delight that we’re reviewing this classic from the 60’s. Although Trougton is marvellous to watch does the story keep us entertained or do we fizzle out like Krotons being dissolved with acid?
Thank you all so much for listening and subscribing, your thoughts on our review ep is always lovely. Next week it’s that cheeky 10th Doctor and Tooth and Claw so get your reviews in for that. Until than have a great week and remember – Allons-y!!

Classic Rewatch: The Krotons
Gallifrey Public Radio - A Doctor Who Podcast"All right, there's no need to shout! Now go away, and don't fuss me. No, come back. What's this? It's all right, I know. Right, fire away. I'm ready." In a set of episodes that rewards viewers with timeless dialogue ("Oh, my giddy aunt!"), delightfully cold and heartless robotic killing machines, dramatic tension between a partisan populace, and more than a fair share of punches thrown, lasers fired, and chemistry lessons learned, this multifaceted sci-fi story is yet another in the long list of thoroughly enjoyable Second Doctor adventures with Jamie and Zoe. Jay and Haley put on their best pointy-shouldered armor, gather a sack full of interesting rocks, and queue up the DVD for a rewatch of the 1969 Doctor Who classic, 'The Krotons'.
