Jazz Hands
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastRemember the 1960s, when this podcast first began? We had such high ideals, and we enjoyed making people happy. Well, it’s 2017 now, so welcome to our bitter, jaded and utterly mercenary take on The Greatest Show in the Galaxy.
The pebble drowning in his lake
Campaigning for our postal plebiscite has turned predictably nasty, but it’s very important for everyone to have their say on this issue: which Colin Baker story should be the subject of our upcoming commentary podcast? Head over to the show notes for Episode 121 to cast your vote.
Buy the story!
The Greatest Show in the Galaxy was released on DVD in 2012. (That was easy.) (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
Notes and links
Brendan’s “surprise mirror” remark is totally incomprehensible unless you’ve seen this literal music video of Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart. Watch it now.
The first episode of Australian comedy series Outland featured a gay Doctor Who fan who briefly considered abandoning his date when he made a crack about Daleks being unable to climb the stairs.
In Richard Marsden’s biography of John Nathan-Turner, it is revealed that JNT and his partner used to refer to hard-core fans as “barkers”, and the attractive ones as “doable barkers”.
Chris Chibnall will be taking the reins of Doctor Who any day now. Here he is on the BBC’s Open Air programme in 1986, criticising The Trial of a Time Lord.
The Pakleds from the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Samaritan Snare were intended to be a parody of Star Trek fans.
This sketch from A Bit of Fry and Laurie depicts Stephen Fry’s reaction to increasing choice in the media landscape. Watch it all the way through — there’s a lovely surprise in there for fans of Doctor Who.
Richard identifies 7 Faces of Dr. Lao (1964) as one of the inspirations for this story. The eponymous Doctor is played by Tony Randall in some appalling yellowface. Check out the trailer here.
Picks of the week
Brendan
Take a deep breath. Brendan’s first pick is Doctor Who on Holiday a remix by Dean Gray of The KLF’s Doctorin’ the TARDIS, featuring Green Day. It’s good.
His second pick is The X-Men: The Animated Series Podcast, a podcast in which two American fans discuss, well, X-Men: The Animated Series.
Nathan
Evelyn Waugh’s Vile Bodies, read by Robert Hardy. It’s not available on Audible in the US. Write to your Congressman. (Audible UK) (Audible AU)
Richard
Richard (bless him) just wants you to watch Season 25 again. And eat some fruit.
Follow us!
Brendan is on Twitter as @brandybongos, Nathan is @nathanbottomley, Todd is @toddbeilby and Richard is @RichardLStone. The Flight Through Entirety theme was arranged by Cameron Lam, and the logo was designed by Anthony Wells. You can follow the podcast on Twitter at @FTEpodcast. We’re also on Facebook, and you can check out our website at flightthroughentirety.com. Please consider rating or reviewing us on iTunes, or we’ll descend on your fruit cart like a pack of hippie weirdos.
Bondfinger
Richard is off on a top-secret mission to Piz Gloria right now, so our coverage of the Brosnan era will resume in a few weeks’ time. While you’re waiting, you can enjoy our previous commentaries on the Pierce Brosnan films, and our commentaries on the Timothy Dalton Era.
We also have plenty of Rodgecasts online, and there are other Bonds available, as well. Even fake ones.
You can keep up with all the Bondfinger news on Twitter and Facebook.

You and Who Talking 019
The Doctor Who ShowWhat you are about to hear is the story of a connection, a connection that was made between a television series and a viewer's life.
The You and Who books are the story of that connection, as told by the people who watch the programmes that make us come alive. Chiefly, of course, Doctor Who.
This podcast will relate some of the stories from those books... and beyond.
In this episode:
The Impossible Squidginess of Being: The Impossible Planet by Gareth Kearns
With an introduction featuring Rob Irwin talking to JR Southall.
The You and Who books, from which all royalties are paid to charity, are available in print and for Kindle, from watchingbooks.weebly.com

GeeklecticHoppin' Whovians! This week, we're joined by Jennifer Adams Kelly, Steven Hill, Jan Fennick, John Lavalie, Nicholas Seidler, and Robert Warnock - the brains behind the book "Red, White, and Who: The Story of Doctor Who in America." We discuss the good ol' days of fandom, the importance of supporting your local PBS station, and Clay's chance encounter with a beloved member of the Doctor Who family at a Waffle House in 1987. Also: convention news and more. (Note: near the end of the interview, there are a few moments where the audio gets a bit spotty due to technical whatsits, which I'm blaming on my cat. No, seriously. She knows what she did.) Terminus Podcast -- Mini Episode 3 - TARDIS Full of Bras: Thirteenth Doctor Announcement
Terminus: A Doctor Who PodcastAnd here's a bonus episode for all of you -- all just a wee little diversion from my previously scheduled review episode (which I'm getting back to very soon!), full of my belated thoughts on Jodie Whittaker and her recent casting as the Thirteenth Doctor.
So, please join me as I discuss Jodie herself, as well as Chris Chibnall's soon-to-be stewardship of the show, finally having a female Doctor in our midst (at least as far as the TV show is concerned!), fandom's myriad reactions to the casting news, lots of gender stuff, and, finally, just my own reaction to the news.
And as I said, this is basically a 'mini'-style episode, but again, as with previous 'mini episodes', its admittedly not particularly short in length (yes, despite the diminutive name status!) It's just how I currently differentiate such episodes from the 'regular' episodes, especially when taking a break from the regularly scheduled program. But that's all inside baseball. Or something.
Oh, and also from a production standpoint, this episode admittedly took a few weeks to edit with all my own recent Life Stuff slowing things down, so some things mentioned may be a bit dated here and here, but it's all good. I doubt it will impact anything, really!
Anyway, as always, glad to have you all here and please do enjoy the ride!

Classic Rewatch: The Daemons
Gallifrey Public Radio - A Doctor Who PodcastThe early seventies were a wild time. The Summer of Love was drawing to a slurred, hazy close. Darker tones and imagery were starting to replace the flowers and neon colors in modern art, and interest in the shadowy fringes of history, science, and culture were becoming not only interesting, but influential. Psychedelic rock was giving way to new sounds, like a group of ragtag blokes from Birmingham who called their group ‘Black Sabbath’. Being the consummate trendsetter and fashion […]

Like Charles Dickens there's a lesson to be learned
Who's He?After what feels like a lifetime, Phil and Paul return once again to their series one retrospective and The Unquiet Dead by Mark Gatiss. In a story that sees the writer, director and cast all on top form, it leads the pair of them to question whether Mark Gatiss output for Doctor Who requires a reappraisal. But they also question whether the alien in this story really deserved to become a villain at the end or whether the Doctors attitude towards the dead was story enough?
And in the news this week, Jodie Whittakers reactions to being cast as the Doctor, there's a Doctor Who actor celebrating a centenary, we say goodbye to Victor Pemberton and Hywell Bennett and in Omega's Tat Corner (or Tats Corner as Phil keeps saying!) it's Mr. Men tat.

096: The Time Meddler
The Krynoid Podcast"I'm not a mountain goat and I prefer walking to any day. And I hate climbing."
If you think Steven Moffat era Doctor Who taxes the mind, imagine being part of the 1965 audience and having to decode anagrams of the scripted lines on the fly.
And the mind is boggled in many other ways by The Time Meddler. How can an 11th Century monk have a wristwatch, electric stove and gramophone? Has the BBC lost the plot? Has Dennis Spooner been hot-spooning? Or perhaps the pee-drenched padre is to blame and thus a legitimate target of the (extremely) long arm of Doctor Tickle.
Our eponymous hero and visiting Vikings alike get merry on mead from Hur indoors, while Vicki suffers sexism from Steven, the new companion who likes to attack first and ask (too many) questions later. And then not believe any of the answers.
Will the groat ever drop for Steven? Will he find the bovine astronaut he seeks? What do you do if your TARDIS is smaller on the inside? Whose beard is camping out on Eldred's face?
And did Jim and Martin delight in this first ever pseudo-historical or do they disapprove of all this time meddling?
Find out here.
