But Barbara wants no part of what Nero wants to do and Ian has had a belly full of orders from the expansionist Italians. The Doctor and Vicki, meanwhile, have a great time lying about lyres and nearly poisoning a despot but it's no surprise when it all goes up in flames.

The Doctor and Romana find themselves slumming it in a pocket-sized parallel universe.

Worse still, they land on the home world of - loathe him or hate him - the boy Adric. Chuck in a few indecisive Deciders, some evolving arachnids and a bunch of amphibian Gumbies, and it's another trying jaunt for our two intrepid Time Lords.

On the brand new Trap One Podcast Keith (@50dw50), Frazer (@FelixFrazer), James (@Jikster2009) and Mark (@QuarkMcMalus) go behind enemy lines to examine A Genius for War, the latest volume of Big Finish's 60th anniversary series, Once and Future.

The novelization of Snakedance is published the month after the novelization of Kinda, so it fell to Terrance Dicks to adapt both Doctor Who Mara stories from the small screen to the printed page. Terrance doesn't have all that much to add to Christopher Bailey's complex themes and explorations of the dark sides of human nature... but we have plenty to add to the discussion.

It’s Christmas in July, and what could be more Christmassy than having your brains sucked out by predatory alien crabs? Why, Nick Frost as Santa, of course! So welcome, everyone, to your Last Christmas.

We often use an episode’s show notes to enumerate a story’s influences, but Mr Moffat has already done it for us. Towards the end of the episode, Shona picks up a piece of paper which outlines her Christmas Day itinerary, including DVD (Alien), DVD (The Thing from Another World), and DVD (Miracle on 34th Street). She also plans to forgive Dave, which is nice.

Brendan mentions the long-forgotten Doctor Who spin-off Class, whose only season aired towards the end of 2016. Peter Capaldi’s Doctor appears in the first episode, which is his only onscreen appearance between the 2015 Christmas Special The Husbands of River Song and the 2016 Christmas Special The Return of Doctor Mysterio.

Review - Masters of War

Just for a change Phil and Paul have a listen to Masters of War, part of the Doctor Who Unbound series of audio stories from Big Finish. In this "what if" scenario, The Doctor (played by David Warner) and his travelling companion Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart land the TARDIS on Skaro and find that the Daleks have subjugated the Thals and the Doctor sets out to help them fight back. However not everything on Skaro is as it seems.

How will Phil and Paul react to a story that is not (gasp!) canon? Will David Warner live up to Paul's lofty expectations? And will Phil get his in his impression of a spaced out Mr. Burns? Listen to find out if any of this is true!
