TDP 870: @BigFinish #DoctorWho Third Doctor Volume 5
Tin Dog Podcast@TinDogPodcast reviews This title was released in May 2019. It will be exclusively available to buy from the Big Finish website until June 30th 2019, and on general sale after this date. 5.1 Primord by John Dorney Prisoners are escaping from incarceration all around the country and UNIT have been called in to aid in the search. But the Doctor is unwilling to agree to the Brigadier’s request for help as he and Jo have opted to take a holiday – they’re going to visit his old assistant Liz Shaw, now working in Cambridge University. But, unfortunately for Jo, the Doctor can’t relax for very long. Soon the Time Lord and his friends are facing an old enemy – creatures they’d long since thought they’d put to ground. The Primords have returned – and this time the danger may strike very close to home. 5.2 The Scream of Ghosts by Guy Adams When the Brigadier and Jo are called in to look into a breakthrough in the field of portable communication, the Doctor has to stay behind with communications problems of his own – a strange signal coming through the TARDIS console that’s burned out its circuits. When Benton approaches the Doctor with an odd story about an old friend, the Time Lord realises his troubles and the Brigadier’s investigations may be connected, and hot-foots it in pursuit. Soon they discover that terrifying sounds are walking in the woods of the English countryside... but what lurks behind those sounds may be even more dangerous...
Denn "Doctor Who - The Runaway" - das VR-Event ist erschienen. Also dann: Feuer frei!

Episode 253: Recycle Binned His Memories
Trust Your DoctorReduce, reuse, recycle those braincells.
If Trust Your Doctor was committing a heist, what would we be stealing? I would have to imagine it would be something incredibly pointless, just to say that we could. Something like a 2×4 piece of wood from the local lumber yard. Those places have major security! This is would have to be the greatest heist of all time. It’s Time Heist, written by Steve Thompson and Steven Moffat and aired on September 20, 2014
Show-notes:
6:39 Malcolm Tucker from The Thick of It. Don’t worry, this video is 100% appropriate for children. Also, I had no idea Veep was inspired by a British show.
7:30 More totally child-friendly content courtesy of Gordon Ramsay.
10:05 Apparently Matrix code was created from recipes out of a Japanese cookbook.
16:51 Great intro sequence though.
17:41 Check out Triple Play, our movie trilogy podcast.
24:05 Dark Phoenix can’t be worse than The Last Stand, right?
41:34 Me thinking about how long a weekly Calvin & Hobbes podcast would take (the last panel).
47:28 Both Blake’s 7 in Character and Making Blake’s 7 are great sources of knowledge about Blake’s 7.

Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week, Nathan’s hiding in a sarcophagus, James is transfixed by a giant ball, Todd keeps trying to lure his workmates into the next office, and Richard just wishes Tracy-Ann Oberman would do a better job with her hair — while all around them, Cybermen are busily pressing themselves into the skin of the universe. Our flight through Series 2 is nearly at an end, so it’s time to face an entire Army of Ghosts.
Notes and links
As often happens, Nathan mentions El Sandifer’s blog, so it’s probably time we linked to it again. It’s at Eruditorum Press, where you can find her takes on the history of Doctor Who from the very beginning — she’s currently working her way through Series 10.
Doctor Who Meets Scratchman was a Doctor Who movie idea developed in the 1970s by Tom Baker: it would have guest starred Vincent Price and Twiggy. Last year it was released as a novelisation written by James Goss.
This will undoubtedly come up again, but Big Finish has released a series of stories set in the London branch of Torchwood before it was destroyed by the Cybermen. The first box set is called Torchwood One: Before the Fall.
Russell T Davies’s new series is currently screening on BBC One. It’s called Years and Years, it’s funny and heartwarming, and it deftly captures the daily feelings of impending catastrophe experienced by anyone unfortunate enough to have survived this far into late capitalism. Highly recommended.
Richard makes reference to the alarming fact that in Colony in Space, the head of IMC was originally going to be a leather-clad Susan Jameson, before this idea was vetoed by the BBC Head of Serials.

DIDDLY DUM PODCAST 116 – Of Mice and Spacemen
Diddly Dum Podcast
It takes us a good half hour to get around to talking about Doctor Who this week. But it’s worth it as Hayden relates his experience of finally watching Blakes 7, Series A and then binge-watching I, Claudius. We also include our interviews from Capitol IV with The Sons of Skaro and Peter Purves. Along the way, we struggle to control the Whoseum computer’s fixation with paying tribute to the late Doris Day

#117 - The Magic of Suburbia
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2There's nothing wrong with Perivale. Ben theorizes that Rona Munro is channeling the myth of Herne the Hunter as inspiration for the Cheetah people revealing the magic that is hidden in suburban London. Not so much the Cockney urchin that Ace likes to pretend she is, the trip back to Perivale reveals that she perhaps is a spoiled middle class kid whose making a big deal about not much of anything. David notes this story feels much more London than anything London in the modern Who era. Proving that setting is more than just a few set dressings of buses and phone boxes. All-in-all, Survival is a praiseworthy Doctor Who story and sadly the last of the classic era. Opening music is from the score of Survival by Dominic Glynn. Glynn also composed the closing music, "...and Somewhere Else, The Tea's Getting Cold." At the very end, to help celebrate the old western feel to Glynn's score, we ultimately close with the Cellar Set's 2007 interpretation of the theme in "Spaghetti Who."
