Deeply Platonic
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastThis week, Brendan’s high on Honesty, James is driving naked, and Nathan can’t stop scratching himself for some reason, while special guest star Erik Stadnik brings some philosophy and literary criticism to our discussion of Gridlock.
Notes and links
Fans of David Tennant massively overplaying the Doctor’s enthusiasm will also enjoy his audiobook reading of The Stone Rose by Jacqueline Rayner. (Audible US) (Audible UK) (Audible AU)
Simon and Nathan discuss realism in Doctor Who — and in Gridlock in particular — in our The Girl in the Fireplace episode, Episode 151: Tropes, for Want of a Better Word.
Plato’s allegory of the Cave can be found at the start of Book 7 of The Republic, 514a–520a.
The actor who plays Valerie in Gridlock and Bill’s foster mother Moira in Series 10 also had a small part in RTD’s series The Second Coming, which stars Christoper Eccleston in the title role and which is very definitely worth watching.
Brendan’s morbid fear of Tractators is recounted in some detail in our Frontios episode, Episode 94: Not Allowed to Watch That One.
The very first people to get addicted to Bliss are described by Homer in Odyssey 9.82–115.
Russell T Davies’ first draft of this episode can be found on page 63 of Monsters and Villains (2005) by Justin Richards.
Erik’s podcasts are The Real McCoy and The Writers’ Room, so you should all subscribe to them immediately, of course.

Terminus Podcast -- Mini Episode 5 – DragonCon 2019 (+ Bonus Listener Feedback!)
Terminus: A Doctor Who PodcastOn this episode, I take a small little detour from my recent 'Spark Joy' series to share all of my squeeful adventures at DragonCon 2019 with you guys, including – spoilers! – meeting David Tennant, Freema Agyeman, and Catherine Tate, as well as several other things that happened at the convention. Heck, I even time-stamped them all for those of you wanting to skip to certain parts, as I can get a bit detailed. And loquacious.
I also take some time to finish up with answering my recent lengthy feedback from listener Vanessa (that I started on last episode). Now, admittedly I go on a bit of a ramble at times while doing so -- as I often do -- but it was still lots and lots of fun to do and I really hope you guys enjoy it, nonetheless. #chattycathy
So, yes, I hope you guys will all enjoy the ride! There's definitely lots of squee in store for you!

Episode 442 – Beyond the Doctor: Spooky Time
Traveling the VortexIn this week’s episode, we step away from Doctor Who just a bit to examine films that the actors who played the Doctor have starred in over the years. This gives us a chance to look at a greater body of work outside of the character we know and love. And, because it is almost Halloween, we decided to choose movies that could be considered a horror, a thriller, or just spooky in story and tone.
So this week we look at Fourth Doctor actor Tom Baker in the story anthology film, Vault of Horror and Ninth Doctor actor Christopher Eccleston in the Danny Boyle directed zombie film, 28 Days Later.
We hope you enjoy this little excursion.

2MTL 437: Guilt, Shame, Obligation, and Regeneration
Two-minute Time LordPrompted by Erik's remembrance of Terrance Dicks in 2MTL 435, some thoughts about the modern moral character of the Doctor: how Doctors 9-12 changed the game from Terrance Dicks's model, and how the Thirteenth Doctor changes the game again.

Radio Free Skaro #707 – Not All Spiders Sit On The Back
Radio Free SkaroA long-delayed promise of one Mr. Stephen Fry being in or around Doctor Who may come to fruition, as rumours abound he’ll star in the first episode of the upcoming Series 12 (which the BBC currently seems uninterested in promoting…). Otherwise it’s all spinoffs and tat, with Big Finish putting out a multi-Master and Daleks adventure, a Bernice Summerfield colouring book and new, non-Character Options dollies! Mere preamble to this week’s commentary for “Arachnids in the UK” with Den of Geek entertainment journalist and Legitimate Salvage co-host Kayti Burt!

268: Underworld is the Citizen Kane of Doctor Who (The Return of Doctor Mysterio)
Trust Your DoctorTruly, the greatest Doctor Who story of all time.
There’s been a lot of Christmas on the mind recently. There’s even a Christmas scene in The Pilot, so that’s like three weeks worth of Christmas for us, which is quite overwhelming if we’re completely honest. But hey, at least no more for another three months. It’s The Return of Doctor Mysterio, written by Steven Moffat and aired on December 25, 2016.
