DWBRcast 254 - Doctor Who Origins!
#238 - Doctor Who and the Creepy Laugh
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2We discuss The Giggle, the closing chapter of Doctor Who's 60th anniversary specials. High marks for Neil Patrick Harris as the Toymaker who nearly stole every scene he was in until the arrival of Ncuti Gatwa as the bi-generated Doctor. But, thumbs down on the Vlinx, and thought Mr. Smith, Mel Bush, or even BOSS would have been a better narrative choice. We're cautiously optimistic about the future, but we wonder if Disney is stealthily aiming for a total reboot of Doctor Who in a similar way that they created an alternate continuity for Star Wars to give the current creative team a clean slate (and to make it easier to market), and thus Garwa's Who is to be series/season 1. Opening music is composed by Murray Gold from The Giggle soundtrack, and the closing music is an excerpt from "Two of Us" by The Beatles. We recorded this episode on 11 December 2023.

7.2 Phobos
Doctor Who - Pieces of EighthBrrrrrr! It's winter, so we thought we'd tie in with the season and do a story set in the snow.
So, brace yourself, get your anti-gravity ski boots on, and prepare for some extreme wintersports on the Martian moon of Phobos. There's nothing to fear... is there?
We look at this Eighth Doctor and Lucie adventure, as we chat with author Eddie Robson, and guest star Tim Sutton.
Also, find out what Becca and Kenny's biggest fears are too!

354: A Silly Little Bean
Trust Your DoctorAlternate title: It All Comes Back to Grapes
This week the TARDIS ventures where it’s never been before, the wild blue yonder. Other yonders are available, however, including the newly released forest green yonder, in addition to the classics: fire red yonder and scorching yellow yonder. It’s Wild Blue Yonder, written by Russell T. Davies and originally aired on December 3, 2023.
Show-notes:
1:26: Honestly just googled “Kafka’s works” to find a source for his work being published posthumously and instead found this long article wondering if he really wanted it destroyed or not.
2:29: Yes Last Jedi was episode 8
14:12: Just in case you forgot, Jack and the 9th Doctor did actually kiss.
17:47: Here’s the TARDIS wiki page for crouton.
21:37: Marvin the paranoid android is a character from Douglas Adam’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
24:18: I’m linking wikipedia a lot this week but whatever, here’s the US Air Force (the song).
32:33: I dunno I got this information about the golden gate from wikipedia too.
48:41: Wow, they really did taser grapes to make the Quiet Place noise

The 60th Anniversary Wrap-up!
The Doctor Who PodcastNo new Doctor Who on our screens this weekend! How are you coping?! The sense of loss is palpable here in the campervan, so Michele, Ian and James get together over a mug of Horlicks and remissness about the three celebratory episodes we’ve enjoyed over the last month.
What do they think of bi-regeneration after the twist on regeneration was introduced to Doctor Who fans and the wider viewing public a week ago? Was the arrival of the 15th Doctor 20 minutes earlier than anticipated overshadowed by the 14th not wanting to go one last time?! And which DWP host is most likely to be found in the Campervan’s vegetable patch shooting moles?! Tune in to fine out. 🙂
We’ll be back mid-week with a preview of this year’s Christmas Special, The Church of Ruby Road. Phew, it’s all go here in the campervan! Well, it would be if there wasn’t a mole stuck in the exhaust pipe.
Enjoy the show!
