Doctor Who - Pieces of EighthEPISODE four of Pieces of Eighth sees us joined by an actor who has encountered Paul McGann's Doctor in two very different roles.
Seán Carlsen was first cast in The Natural History of Fear, in which he played a variety of roles, and made an impression producer/director Gary Russell, who subsequently cast him as CIA Co-ordinator Narvin in the Gallifrey spin-off series.
Narvin has since become one of Big Finish's most beloved original creations, and Sean joins us to share his experiences of working with Paul McGann and Sir Derek Jacobi, as well as meeting War Doctor Sir John Hurt.

A Brilliant Whole
Flight Through Entirety: A Doctor Who PodcastIn the last episode of this series of Flight Through Entirety, we fly through the first year of Matt Smith’s time as the Doctor, snogging, marrying and avoiding things, and responding to some of our listeners’ most pressing questions. More New Paradigm Daleks? Fewer Silurians? More Richard Curtis episodes? More series of Doctor Who just as good as this one?
Notes and links
Thank you to our listeners Luke Hobbs, Bob Gilbey, Si Hart, Erik Stadnik and Liam McNicholas for their questions this week.
Among the Steven Moffat comedies we mention this week are Joking Apart and our favourite teen drama of all time, Press Gang. We recommend watching all of Press Gang repeatedly, for the rest of your life, but you can safely drop out of Joking Apart at the end of Series 1.
Naturally, Big Finish have already released one box set featuring Arthur Darvill as the Lone Centurion, Volume 1, with Volume 2 scheduled for release in 2022. I’m still holding out for the Amelia Rumsford box sets myself. Don’t say it.
Peter and Nathan both think that in this era River Song plays a similar role to the Brigadier in the Classic Series. Of course, the first person to make this point on FTE was friend-of-the-podcast Johnny Spandrell in our Forest of the Dead episode, aptly named Our New Brigadier.

#189 - Page Layout of Unreasoning Terror
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2We read Doctor Who Monthly #48 from January 1981 and talk about the magazine, its comics and editorial content, and look back on how official fandom was 40 years ago. Ben also gets a little nostalgic about ads for BMX bikes and Star Wars digital wristwatches. Opening music is an excerpt from "We, Pangol" aka "Pangol's March" and closing music is "Back to Work", both pieces are from the Leisure Hive score composed by Peter Howell of the BBC Radiophic Workshop. We recorded this episode on 6 June 2021.

TDP 1003: 6.2. #DoctorWho: The Doomsday Contract
Tin Dog PodcastEarth - a small, insignificant planet. Entirely devoid of intelligent life. At least that's according to the legal documents. The Doctor, Romana and K9 find themselves at the centre of a most unusual trial. An intergalactic corporation wants to bulldoze the planet for a development project. Only a previous court's preservation document is standing in their way. The Doctor has been summoned as an expert witness. If he can prove Earth contains intelligent life, the whole world will be saved. But with a fortune at stake, it was never going to be that simple.

343: Like Getting Slapped With a Wet Sock (The Airzone Solution)
Trust Your DoctorAh, my favourite sensation.
So in the future, when we’re all wearing masks in order to stay alive, do you think we’ll look back on this movie as a warning? Probably not in al honestly, I think most people probably don’t even remember that it exists. I didn’t. And I wish to never again. See you all soon! It’s The Airzone Solution and released at some point in 1993.
Show-notes:
0:56: Here, for your very own viewing and enjoyment, the Warped Factor review that I read from.
5:44: Did you know that the ineffable Dough Liman directed Chaos Walking to the point of it being unreleasable?
11:58: Yep this takes place in 2091. Amazing.
14:47: Might as well just link to the wikipedia page for Bill and Ben Video.
25:27: Go and watch Soylent Green instead of The Airzone Solution, it’s way more interesting.
25:56: Watching The Airzone Solution feels like being held at gunpoint buy you’re bored.
31:51: How to stage faint, for all you budding actors out there.
51:30: “In chemistry, a solution is a special type of homogeneous mixture composed of two or more substances.” – Wikipedia User, 2???. The two components of a solution are a solute and solvent.
51:59: I went on AO3 and looked for “Airzone Solution” and actually found one f*cking fan fiction about The Airzone Solution. And it was published in 2020! Creepily enough, Arnie gets slapped by Ellie in this… with a wet sock. *Twilight Zone theme plays*
1:13:06: Which Peter? Blue Peter.
1:18:44: Really, actually starting in 15 minutes from when you heard us say this.
1:20:50: Check out Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast, our classic sci-fi podcast. It’ll be running (at some point) while Trust Your Doctor’s on hiatus.
1:21:04: The 2038 problem needs some levity added to it. Please, people. Start joking about this just to take the edge off how much it’ll suck when we get there.
1:25:52: I’m not saying you can watch The Airzone Solution for yourself on Tubi, but I’m not not saying that either.
1:27:20: Blow up canon or whatever, thank god we don’t have to paste this article anymore. Pretty sure I have it memorized now.
1:31:23: This is a reference to Battlefield.
