Radio Free Skaro
- Description:
- Radio Free Skaro is possibly the most popular, most prolific and charmingly irreverent (but never irrelevant) Doctor Who podcast around. Since August 2006, hosts Warren (in Vancouver, BC) and Steven (in Edmonton, AB) have provided listeners with their brand of amusing Doctor Who praise and punishment. A year later, Chris (in Amherst, NS) was added to the team, and The Three Who Rule were born. Recommended by Doctor Who Magazine, Radio Free Skaro provides an entertaining and diverting listen for the diehard or casual Doctor Who fan. New episodes usually appear on Sundays, following a loose magazine format of the three hosts discussing the news and events of the past week in the worlds of Doctor Who, Torchwood, and the Sarah Jane Adventures. They have also recorded special commentary podcasts for classic series and new series episodes of Doctor Who along with interviews of some of the brightest of the Doctor Who luminaries. Radio Free Skaro is also the official podcast of Gallifrey One, the world's largest and longest-running annual Doctor Who convention.

Radio Free Skaro #1041 - Staircase to Heaven
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 29 minutes and 10 secondsThe War Between the Land and the Sea is premiering Sunday, December 7! While that throws a wrench in our usually stable release plans, we're certain we can all cope through the first three weeks of December. In other news, the Three Who Rule calm the waters on missing episode rumblings, a follow-up on Tubi disintegrating Classic Doctor Who from its listings, Gallifrey One news, more staircase intrigues, and the Pondcast, a new podcast featuring none other than Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill reminiscing about their time on Doctor Who! But the real highlight is a descent into 2009 with the second part of our re-examination of Torchwood: Children of Earth!

Radio Free Skaro #1040 - Scotland 1965
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 48 minutes and 3 secondsThe Three Who Rule take on the big questions this week, including whether or not to call the Sea Devils "Homo Aqua," possible BBC broadcast plans for The War Between the Land and the Sea, the existence of 4K 35mm transfers of telecined old TV shows, and most importantly the spreading media virus known as the Spiral Staircase, which has driven Steven further around the bend than usual! Plus Tubi intrigue regarding the status of Classic Doctor Who, Doctor Who Magazine issuing massive pieces about Carole Ann Ford and Terry Nation, and most importantly, the first of our five-part re-evaluation of Torchwood: Children of Earth!

Radio Free Skaro #1039 - So Here It Is
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 42 minutes and 38 secondsThe moment has arrived! That is, an actual announcement of Doctor Who's future from the BBC (and not the outgoing Disney+) in the form of a last hurrah from Russell T Davies and Bad Wolf by way of a Christmas special in 2026, along with official confirmation of Turf and Surf hitting the iPlayer this Christmas and Disney+ in February. What does this portend for both the present and future of Doctor Who? The Three Who Rule put on their television detective hats and as usual solve nothing, as do many entertainment journalists including friend of the show Kyle Anderson, and lesser lights such as Variety, Deadline, and The Hollywood Reporter. Plus the usual Big Finish cover over-analysis, a smidgen of Can*Con, and the conclusion of our four-part Classic Series Commentary for "The Sun Makers"!

Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 25 minutes and 17 secondsAfter a week of not-news coverage where Chris and Warren wandered the Earth and comedian, Who historian and legend Toby Hadoke ably guested, the Three Who Rule are reunited and tackle a shedload of news, including a scoop about The War Between the Land and the Sea airing at different times on the BBC and Disney+, Carole Ann Ford letting loose on the unused Season 2 finale of one Doctor Who, Jane Tranter explaining how TV works in 2025 (not so well!), tons of Big Finish, and most importantly, Part the Third of our Classic Series Commentary for The Sun Makers!

Radio Free Skaro #1035 - Six Suns on Pluto
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 28 minutes and 51 secondsWild speculation abounds as rumours of the BBC and Bad Wolf “it’s not you, it’s me” -ing each other surface given the somewhat mid (as the kids say) reception to the latest iteration of Doctor Who, The Three Who Rule have theories a-plenty as to the show’s next steps, anchored by nothing but their half-formed notions of media literacy (and some inside knowledge). Besides that, we have more exciting Big Finish previews, a Verity! mention on UK game show “The Chase” and the first part of our Class Series Commentary for seminal 1970s serial “The Sun Makers!”

Radio Free Skaro #1031 - Before and After Science
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 55 minutes and 6 secondsA sad time in the world of Doctor Who as we mark the passing of writing titan Christopher H. Bidmead, and to join us in reflecting on both his work and life is Andrew Smith, writer of “Full Circle”, Big Finish dynamo, and friend of the esteemed Mr. Bidmead. Andrew looks back at getting his first break in TV due to Bidmead, working with him on behind the scenes features, and the man’s general approach to Doctor Who, including an infusion of science and a real sense of continuity where none previously existed. We’ve also got the usual bevy of news including more vague handwaving on the future of Doctor Who, 1970’s Cyberman dolly goodness, a new fancy tier for Britbox, and more!

Radio Free Skaro #1026 - The Stone Tape
Episode Duration: 0 days, 1 hours, 59 minutes and 44 secondsDoctor Who has been erased from both HBO Max in the United States and now Prime in Canada, leading the Three Who Rule to speculate on the future of streaming with tangents into Star Trek, the likelihood of Billie Piper actually being the Doctor, spurious yet tantalizing missing episodes hints and nonsense, and Ncuti Gatwa on various chat shows not giving anything away about his time on Doctor Who! But the main event for this episode is of course the first of our four-part Miniscope on Doctor Who director Jamie Magnus Stone, featuring Spyfall, Part One and Praxeus!

Radio Free Skaro #1025 - Malaise Forever
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 59 minutes and 2 secondsIn a week replete with San Diego Comic Con, a semi-invigorated BBC Shop, and a SDCC-adjacent UNIT Black Archive pop-up, you would think there would be more Doctor Who news to cogitate about this week, but you would in fact be wrong! However a new multi-media extravaganza featuring the Fugitive Doctor (hooray!) named “Circuit Breaker” (meh?) has been announced, to follow up the thundering success of Time Lord Victorious and Doom’s Day. Are the Three Who Rule excited at this chance to read, listen and click in 2026? We’ll see! Plus tales of Big Finish, BFI screenings, a new Terrance Dicks biography, and an intervention as Steven’s latest descent into madness focused on spiral staircases!
