As you can probably guess Tin Dog mostly talks about Doctor Who, Torchwood and Sarah Jane Smith but that wont stop him talking about any other subject you suggest. Hailing from a non specific part of the northeast of England, Tin Dog is male and in his mid 30s. A life long fan of almost all TV SF. His semi-autistic tendencies combined with his total lack of social skills have helped him find a place in the heart of British SF Fandom. Even as a child the Tin Dogs mother told him that she can trace his love of SF TV back to his rhythmic kicking, while still in the womb, along to the beat of the Avengers theme music. TDP 670: TV DOCTOR WHO 2017 EP04 - Knock Knock
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 12 minutes and 54 secondsBill and five students (Shireen, Pavel, Harry, Felicity and Paul), seeking to room together, take an offer by an elderly Landlord for a large mansion at very low cost, as long as they do not enter the tower. Bill gets the Doctor to help with her move. The Doctor insinuates himself among Bill's friends, to Bill's consternation, but is troubled by the numerous noises the house makes, including knocking back when the Doctor knocks on the walls. As night falls, the knocking noises grow, and Bill's friends start to disappear. All the exits from the house are sealed tight, preventing any of them from leaving and separating the remaining ones. Bill and Shireen see Pavel half-absorbed in the wall, and the Landlord appears, striking a tuning fork which causes Pavel to disappear completely. The Doctor discovers the house's woodwork infested with insect-like creatures he calls Dryads. They are responsible for drawing the others into the woodwork prior to consuming them. The Doctor and Harry soon find evidence that every twenty years, a new set of students have been brought to the house to feed the Dryads. The Landlord arrives and admits that he needs the Dryads to keep his daughter Eliza alive in the tower. The Doctor and Bill converge on the tower, finding Eliza's body is now made completely of wood. The Doctor determines that the Landlord is actually Eliza's son, a memory long forgotten. As a boy, he had brought his terminally-ill mother some dormant Dryads he found, unaware of their power. When they heard a high-pitched sound from her music box, they awoke and started turning Eliza to wood to stave off her illness. Since then, the Landlord has controlled the Dryads to keep Eliza well while signing on new tenants to become the Dryads' source of nourishment. Eliza is dismayed to find she has been "living" for so long without an actual life outside the house. Being able to control the Dryads, Eliza takes the Landlord into a hug, over his objections, and thanks the Doctor before having the Dryads consume them, while also reconstituting all of Bill's friends. The group escapes the house before it collapses in on itself. Back at the university, the Doctor offers to take over watch of the vault from Nardole. The sounds of a piano can be heard coming from inside as the Doctor enters to have dinner with the prisoner inside. Continuity[edit] When talking about the Time Lords, Bill asks "Do you wear robes and big hats", to which the Doctor replies "No, big collars mostly". This is a reference to the classic series when Time Lords did wear large collars with their robes, which were introduced in The Deadly Assassin.[1] The Doctor also inadvertently mentions regeneration, but then quickly changes the subject.[1] Outside references[edit] Bill is called out for having a Little Mix playlist by her roommates.[2] The Little Mix songs "Black Magic" and "Weird People" are played during the episode. Production[edit] The read-through for the second production block of the tenth series took place on 18 July 2016, and filming began on 1 August 2016, starting with the third episode of the series, "Thin Ice", and then the fourth episode, "Knock Knock".[3][4] The episode was originally titled "The Haunted Hub".[5] The Fields House in Newport served as the mansion in this story; it had also been used for the Wester Drumlins house in the episode Blink.[2] David Suchet stated he "completely freaked" when he realized on the third day of filming that his family had rented the exact same house the Christmas before for the holidays. [6] In an earlier version of the script Harry, one of Bill's friends, was to be revealed as the grandson of a previous companion of the Fourth Doctor, Harry Sullivan, but this scene was later dropped from the final script.[7] Broadcast and reception[edit] After the episode was first broadcast, people in the UK could view a binaural version of the episode on BBC iPlayer.[8] The episode was watched by 4.32 million overnight, up a half-million viewers from the previous episode, "Thin Ice", and the highest-viewed story overnight since the series opener "The Pilot".[9] It received an Appreciation Index score of 83.[10] Critical reception[edit] Professional ratings Review scores Source Rating Rotten Tomatoes (Tomatometer) 85%[11] Rotten Tomatoes (Average Score) 7.39[11] The A.V. "Knock Knock" holds a score of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, the site's consensus reading "A bit of narrative weakness aside, "Knock Knock" is a wonderful mix of nostalgia, horror, humor, and monsters that culminates into a powerful and emotionally complex episode."[11]

TDP 666: TV DOCTOR WHO 2017 EP03 Thin Ice
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 7 minutes and 2 seconds@TinDogPodcast review The Doctor and Bill find they have arrived in London in 1814, in the midst of a frost fair on the frozen Thames. After dressing in period garments, they take to explore it, unaware the TARDIS sensors have identified a large life form, a kilometer long, under the ice. The Doctor's sonic screwdriver is nicked by Spider, one of several orphan pickpockets led by Kitty. The Doctor and Bill chase down Spider and Kitty away from the fair. There, glowing lights under the ice encircle Spider's feet and before the Doctor can save him, Spider is pulled through the ice. Bill is troubled by the Doctor's lack of remorse for Spider's death. They track down Kitty and learn they have been paid to bring more people to the fair, with some having gone missing. The Doctor and Bill get into diving suits and purposely let the lights take them; the lights belong to strange fish, and they find a giant sea creature ensnared by chains, which has eaten Spider and others. Returning to land, they learn from Kitty that their benefactor is the wealthy Lord Sutcliffe. Sutcliffe affirms his family has used the creature to amass a fortune by feeding it victims then collecting and selling its waste as a super powerful replacement for coal. Fearing the Doctor knows too much, Sutcliffe sends the Doctor and Bill to be eaten, while he rigs a bomb to cause the ice to shatter with maximum possible casualties for fish food. The Doctor and Bill escape, and while Bill works with Kitty and the other orphans to clear people off the ice, the Doctor takes the bomb and places it on the creature's chains. When Sutcliffe sets off the bomb, the creature is able to swim free and Sutcliffe is lost in the freezing water. The Doctor rewrites the deed to the Sutcliffe mansion and its staff to the orphans, allowing them to live there as long as they want. They return to the present, where Nardole scolds the Doctor for breaking his oath to stay on Earth. Bill finds from old newspapers that the orphans lived a fulfilling life, though surprised there was no mention of the sea creature. Nardole, while checking the Vault beneath the University, hears something behind it knock repeatedly and says he will only let it out with a proper request from the Doctor. Continuity The Doctor mentions that he has attended Frost Fairs before. In "A Good Man Goes to War", River Song says that the Eleventh Doctor took her to the 1814 Fair for her birthday, where they were serenaded by Stevie Wonder. The First Doctor took Vicki and Steven to the 1814 fair in Frostfire, where they encounter Jane Austen. The Twelfth Doctor also took Clara Oswald to the 1814 Fair in the novel Silhouette, after promising to take her in "The Caretaker". "Doctor Disco" is the same name the Doctor used when leaving Clara a voice message in "The Zygon Invasion". The Seventh Doctor tells Ace in Remembrance of the Daleks that "your species has the most amazing capacity for self-deception", since there is no record of "the Zygon gambit with the Loch Ness Monster" or "the Yetis in the Underground". In "In the Forest of the Night", the Twelfth Doctor tells Clara that "the human superpower (is) forgetting" extraordinary events.[1] Outside references The Frost Fair of 1814, by Luke Clenell The episode features a visit to the 1814 frost fair, the last one to be held at the Old London Bridge (replaced in 1831), which caused the water flow in the Thames to slow enough to allow it to freeze. As part of a stunt during that fair, replicated in this episode, an elephant was led across the frozen Thames.[4] During one scene with the orphans, the Doctor reads them "The Story of Little Suck-a-Thumb" from Heinrich Hoffmann's Struwwelpeter, which would not actually be published until 1845.[4]

They are greeted only by two different types of robots: swarm robots (Vardies) and slow but sentient emojibots. An emojibot gives the Doctor and Bill discs that communicate their true emotions. The Doctor theorizes that the planet is awaiting the colonists but soon realizes that the skeletons of a set-up crew have been crushed to feed the plants. Determined to blow up the city, he finds the main ship within it and its engine room, but Bill runs into a child who has awoken from a pod. The colonists were cryogenically frozen, with a few "shepherds" woken early to work. After one shepherd died, the emojibots could not recognise grief and killed all in mourning in an onslaught against sadness. The awakened colonists decide to fight back, but the Doctor wipes the memory of the robots and reboots everything... only humans must now learn to live with the Vardies, the planet's indigenous species. Then, after the TARDIS returns them to London, the Doctor and Bill discover themselves on a frozen Thames River, an elephant walking towards them on the ice.

Bill Potts is called to the Doctor's office, where Bill becomes the Doctor's student. Bill becomes intrigued by a student named Heather. Heather asks her to inspect a puddle, asking her if she can see what's wrong with her reflection. The Doctor investigates the puddle, and notes that it is not a reflection, but something mimicking them. Bill returns to her flat, and is chased by a moving body of fluid: A living fluid from an alien ship that has absorbed Heather and her feelings for Bill. Bill runs to the Doctor's office and they flee into the TARDIS. The Doctor moves the TARDIS, where he and Nardole check on a vault they are guarding. The TARDIS lands again in Australia, where the Doctor admits who he is. The fluid follows them to another planet in the future, then through a Dalek battle, but survives. Bill convinces "Heather" to let her go, and it departs. The Doctor and Bill return to his office, where he attempts to wipe Bill's memories of the day but she stops him. As Bill leaves, she finds the Doctor waiting with the TARDIS.

REVIEW Long, long ago, (OK, it was 2009, the first gap year since Doctor Whos return to our screens in 2005), two men gave themselves a quest. Too boldly watch and write about every single episode of our favourite television show in the space of a single year... And It is fitting that in 2016 the year second great gap year, that volume two has finally materialised into our book shelves. For those of us who have been living on the dark side of the moon (or egg - depending on your personal canon) who may not have read the first "Running Through Corridors" you have missed a treat. Volume One covered the 1960s while this volume covers the 1970s and a third volume should cover everything else up to the end of the Tenth Doctors tenure. Authors/friends Rob Sherman. (Dalek/Chimes of midnight) and Toby Hadoke. (Moths Ate my Doctor Who Scarf, whosround and more DVD extras than you can shake a stick at) are not only watching every episode of our favourite show but also finding positive and witty things to say about each and everyone. Received fan wisdom is often a welcome casualty of this reasonably mammoth tome. There is nothing but love on display here. Its the love you have for a member of your own family, forgiving and all embracing. Emphasising the positive, while accepting that nothing is perfect - even City of Death. The only thing that could make this will any better be the immediate release of Volume three. It may it may have taken have taken years of this book to finally arrive but it was definitely worth the wait. Just don't ask Rob when Volume Three will be out. REVIEW Anyone who bought Volume One of Space Helmet for a Cow will be buying Volume Two, this might seem like a broad statement but even after a cursory glance at Volume Two, it's clear that this celebration of the history of "New Who" (1999 onwards) is something worth shelling out those hard earned Grotzit for. This new volume covers a considerably shorter period than the first but still manages to cram its hefty page count with the same high standard of witt and critical commentary that went into the first. It is an extremely joyous trip down memory lane for those of us who experienced the resurgence of the new series from the ashes of old. Every page oozes with the sort of acerbic prose that many reviewers dream of, while taking care not to crossing the line into purely negative territory. Not only is it hilarious but it is deeply comprehensive and will act as a gentle reminder for all of those weird and outlandish moments that abound around Doctor Who production and the universe that we are part of. The book answers many questions that we simply didn't know we were asking. Such as "Did Benny and Bjorn from ABBA really plan a Torchwood musical called Weevil Rock You?" or "Which Doctors shared a bed?" and the slightly more believable "How did David Tennant become his own Father in law?" It is clear that this was a labour of love, it lets us see Doctor Who as it really is - a TV programme that is as haphazard in nature as any other in modern television and it is celebrated here in all of its glory. I would recommend that you don't get this for Christmas because your family will lose you for the entire day and become annoyed at your constant chuckling. INSERT ITEM INFO. End of review

The episode stars Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor and Matt Lucas as Nardole, the latter reprising his role from the preceding episode, "The Husbands of River Song". The episode is set in New York City, and involves the Doctor and Nardole linking with journalist Lucy Fletcher (Charity Wakefield) and a superhero called The Ghost (Justin Chatwin) to combat brain-swapping aliens. The episode received generally positive reviews from critics. Taking the boy to the rooftop, the Doctor reveals he accidentally set off a trap for a device he was building, and enlists him to help complete it. However Grant mistakenly swallows a wish-granting gemstone needed for the device, believing it to be medicine, effectively being granted his wish to be a superhero. Abandoning the device, the Doctor makes Grant promise to not use his new superpowers before he leaves. Returning to New York in 2016 with Nardole, whom he rebuilt from Hydroflax's body, the Doctor conducts an investigation into Harmony Shoals, a multinational research company, discovering a news reporter named Lucy Fletcher performing a similar investigation. The group discover that it is being secretly run by a group of living alien brains that transplant themselves into any living creature they need for their plans, killing the company's owner, Mr Brock, for his body. Tracked down by Dr Sims, an employee the brains already took over, the group suddenly are rescued by a masked superhero named the Ghost, who transports Lucy close to her home. Returning to her apartment before her, Ghost transforms back into Grant, who works for Lucy as a nanny, only to be shocked to find the Doctor and Nardole waiting for him, having tracked him down via the gemstone fused to him. When Lucy returns and sees the Time Lord, the Doctor reveals to her that the alien brains colonise planets by taking control of their prominent leaders, with Earth being their next target. Leaving Lucy to prepare for an interview with Grant's alter ego, the Doctor and Nardole track down the alien's ship in a low orbit and board it via the TARDIS. On board, they discover that the ship's reactor is in a critical state, and realise from Dr Sims that he intends to drop it on New York. Remembering an observation made by Nardole, the Doctor realises the city would be vaporised except for the Harmony Shoals building, and that the world leaders would take shelter in the company's other buildings within each capital city on the belief that Earth was under attack, effectively allowing the brains to take them over. After Dr Sims lets slip the ship is to be dropped at a designated time, the Doctor reprogrammes it to begin descending ahead of schedule. Attending his interview, Grant and Lucy become captured by the brains who intend to transplant themselves into Ghost's body. Breaking free and secretly returning as himself, Grant picks up a message from the Doctor requesting his help to stop the alien's ship from crashing into the city after being unable to change its course during its descent. Revealing himself as the Ghost to Lucy in stopping the ship on the rooftop, Grant finally manages to win her over and takes her in tow as he disposes of the ship, while the Doctor alerts UNIT, who subsequently shut down Harmony Shoals, unaware that the alien brain in Dr Sims has escaped within one of their soldiers. Back at Lucy's apartment, Grant informs the Doctor he will no longer use his powers, though as the Time Lord leaves, Lucy asks him why he is sad. Not giving a straight answer as he leaves, Nardole reveals he is still mourning the loss of River Song but will hopefully recover, leaving with the Doctor to aid him further. Continuity[edit] At the beginning of the episode, the Doctor is constructing a device to reverse the paradoxes created during his previous visit in "The Angels Take Manhattan".[1][2] The Doctor mentions that he usually gets "an invasion" every Christmas, a reference to the different invasions of Earth taking place during most Doctor Who Christmas specials.[3] The unnamed brain-swapping aliens last appeared in the 2015 Christmas special "The Husbands of River Song", where they were servants of King Hydroflax. Their main agent, Scratch, stated that they represented "the Shoal of the Winter Harmony."[2] The Doctor tells Lucy that he works for Scotland Yard, which he also did in "The Woman Who Lived". Previously, the Tenth Doctor told the guests at Lady Eddison's manor he was a chief inspector from Scotland Yard in "The Unicorn and the Wasp, while the Eleventh Doctor told President Richard Nixon he was an undercover operative from Scotland Yard (code-named "The Doctor") in "The Impossible Astronaut".[2] A movie theater across from Lucy's apartment features a film called The Mind of Evil, the name of a Third Doctor serial.[4] Nardole mentions that the Doctor cut him out of Hydroflax's body, referring to off-screen events following the "The Husbands of River Song" where he was decapitated and his head was placed inside the artificially intelligent robotic body of King Hydroflax.[5] When the Doctor complains that Grant promised him never to use his powers, Nardole brings up the Time Lord policy of never interfering with other peoples or cultures, first mentioned in the Second Doctor serial The War Games.[4] When clearing out the headquarters of Harmony Shoal, a UNIT officer prepares to contact Osgood, referring to Petronella Osgood who previously appeared in "The Day of the Doctor", "Death in Heaven" and "The Zygon Invasion" / "The Zygon Inversion".[3] Both the Doctor and Nardole refer to the final 24-year night the Doctor spent with River Song ("The Husbands of River Song") and her eventual death in the Library ("Forest of the Dead").[2] Outside references[edit] The character of "The Ghost" is a pastiche of the comic book superhero Superman, with several references to the character being made throughout the special: Superman's creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, are referenced when Mr Brock suggests to the gathered reports to direct further questions to ""Miss Shuster and Ms. Siegel".[6] Grant has roughly the same standard powers of Superman, including flight, super-strength, super-speed, being bulletproof, and possessing X-ray vision,[7] along with other unconventional powers.[1][7] He gains his power from a stellar-powered object (a gemstone made from a star, in the episode), much as Superman gains his from Earth's yellow sun.[1][7] The Harmony Shoals building in New York featured in the episode has a large globe on top of it, making it resemble the Daily Planet building, a major setting of Superman stories.[1] Grant prefers being called "mild-mannered", as Superman's alter ego is often characterized. He also follows the same moral code as Superman when operating as the Ghost,[7] and transforms in a similar fashion by tearing open his shirt to reveal his superhero costume underneath.[1] The special features a number of elements that mimic those from Richard Donner's Superman: The Movie. One scene involves the Ghost voicing his hope that Lucy's close call at Harmony Shoal hasn't put her off journalism, paralleling the same scene in the film in which Superman hopes Lois is not put off from flying after he rescues her from falling out of a helicopter.[7] Lucy also conducts a rooftop interview with the Ghost reminiscent of Lois' interview with Superman in the film.[8] Lucy Fletcher is named after Lois Lane's sister Lucy.[1] Her character is similar to Lois' in that she does not realize that her old high school friend and current nanny is the superhero Ghost.[5] The initials "L.L." used by several characters of the Superman comics (Lois Lane, Lana Lang, Lex Luthor, Linda Lee) is used in Lucy's married name: Lucy Lombard.[1] Several characters from Marvel Comics line the walls of the young Grant's bedroom.[1] The Doctor questions Spider-Man's unusual origin of being bitten by a radioactive spider; he opines that radiation poisoning would be the likely result.[1] A "Joe's Pizza" is shown within the city, which is where Peter Parker worked at briefly in the movie Spider-Man 2.[2] The Doctor counsels Grant that "with great power comes great responsibility," an adage associated with Spider-Man.[7] Batman is briefly referenced after the Ghost drops Lucy off at her apartment building. When the baby monitor he is carrying goes off, Lucy mistakes it for a signal device and asks if the Bat-Signal is now an app.[1] The Doctor uses the viral mobile game Pokemon Go to create a distraction at Harmony Shoal's Tokyo headquarters.[9][10] Promotion[edit] The episode was revealed and the first trailer was shown at the 2016 New York Comic Con on 7 October 2016.[11] A preview clip was shown as part of the Children in Need broadcast on 18 November 2016.[12] Broadcast[edit] Cinemas[edit] The episode will receive cinema screenings in Australia and New Zealand on 26 December 2016,[13][14] in Canada on 26 and 28 December 2016,[15] and in the United States on 27 and 29 December 2016.[16] Reception[edit] The episode had an official rating of 7.83 million viewers in the UK, making it the 6th most watched show on Christmas Day 2016.[17] The overnight rating was 5.68 million, a share of 27.1% of the total TV audience.[18] The episode received an Appreciation Index score of 82.[19] It also received 1.7 million viewers on BBCA, was BBC America's top telecast of the year across all key demographics, and was the most talked about Christmas day television program on Facebook and Twitter.[20] Critical reception[edit] The Telegraph gave a positive review of five out of five stars and summarized that the episode was "a romp with a classic feel and cross-generational appeal".[9] Andrew Billen writing in The Times gave the programme four stars out of a possible five. Billen said that Capaldi was at his warmest and that Nardole (Matt Lucas) "added panto brio to an already exuberant episode".[21] The Guardian gave a positive review of The Return of Doctor Mysterio saying "Capaldi takes Manhattan!" ... "Cosmic baddies are inserting alien brains into world leaders' heads in the Christmas special. It's timely, top-of-the-tree fun - and Peter Capaldi and Matt Lucas are a pantomime treat".[22] IGN said ""The Return of Doctor Mysterio" is a pretty lightweight entry in the Twelfth Doctor's oeuvre, which considering the events of last season isn't necessarily a bad thing. But the different elements of the episode don't come together as smoothly as they could, and the emotional through line for the Doctor is treated mostly as an afterthought" but gave it 7/10.[23] A.V. Club gave a mixed review saying that "Doctor Who takes a jolly detour to superhero goofiness".[24]

Captain Jack Harkness has encountered the infection before and knows that something alien is hiding inside it. With the city sealed off and murderous mobs rampaging through the streets, Torchwood has to save something even more important than the human race.
