Welcome to this, the 11th Hitchhiker's Guide to the Whoverse: Mostly Harmless Cutaway. Today Eric & special guest co-host Cat (@fancyfembot) break down the newest, latest, and greatest Doctor Who episode Amy's Choice. Cat is the hostess & creater of the Sci-Fi Party Line Podcast where they talk about a currenty sci-fi in movies & television. Never fear, Megan should be returning soon as she got caught in a stray time eddy.

WARNING: This review/discussion contains very dreamy SPOILERS, ahh-choo!

Thanks so much to James (@JamesNaughton), co-host of the Doctor Who @Podshock podcast for providing this episode's intro. He's one of the kindest, most jovial, benevelont people you could ever meet in person. We certainly feel his contribution puts the York in our Peppermint Pattie. Never have you met a kinder more sincere chap in person. Please follow the twitter links to check out their podcasts although chances are you already have because they're the oldest, longest running, & most downloaded Doctor Who podcast to date.

Disclaimer: Now here's the part where we list some of Eric's pathetic factual gaffes in this week's ep, or as we like to call them: 'Intentional' production errors or Easter Eggs: 1) Eric incorrectly refers to actor Toby Jones (The Dream Lord) as Tom Jones. 2) Eric calls her Mrs. Potter rather than Mrs. Poggit. 3) When Eric was referring to the wonderful violin piece composed by @murraygold he incorrectly pointed toward Rory's exit scene. While it too contains a wonderful piece of music, it is a piano which is heard prevalently at that point. The piece with the violin is actually played backing the beautiful kiss scene - Oh my hearts -

TARDIS Tavern #17: Dalek Restroom Cutaway

With a little help from our friends...

Podcest is such a wonderful thing; That interconnection we all share as part of the Doctor Who Podcast Alliance. We were recently listening to our pals Steve & Sean's latest TARDIS Tavern podcast. Since its inception back in November '09, their program has been steadily growing, improving, & finding it's own place among the pantheon of WHO 'casts out there now. This Blue Guy thuroughly enjoyed their recent Dalek potty humor sketch & immeditately asked for permission to publish it here on the Guide to the Whoverse feed for all of you to enjoy should you partake. This is only a small excerpt however, the bulk of this episode is actually a half druken review of the Second Doctor's first story Power of the Daleks. Honestly it was, but a mere coinicdence that the 'Two WHO Drool' just happened to preselect reviewing this classic story right on the heels of the newest Dalek story Victory of the Daleks airing.

Be sure to listen to the entire TARDIS Tavern Episode 17 The Victory of the Power of the Daleks which can be found here. Warning: This skit contains EXPLICIT language along with some crude humor, but honestly no more crude than that found in RTD's Aliens of London / World War Three.

We'd really like to thank Steve & Sean again for allowing us to feature this clip on our feed. (Mostly) every week they hit up their locak WHO tavern & review a classic story while inbibing Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters. Quite an interesting mix of conflicting interests if you ask us.

Disclaimer: Should you still have any more rants, complaints, or comments please direct them to:

Contrary to common belief, Eric & Megan set to record a mid-week Victory of the Daleks Cutaway this last Thrusday April 22nd. Unfotunately a conspiring cosmos was working against them. Firstly a certain producer of this show's computer decided to go on the Fritz Tuesday. Following which he proceded to stay awake for 26 hrs striaght before recording would commence.

It was not our brightest hour. What ensued was something little resembling our strandard podcast format. For 2.5 hrs the misery edured, failing attention + hallucinations leading to many and frequent resets, redos, and restarts. We had hoped that the edit bay might be able to salvage some carcass of a show from the wreckage, but alas fate & destiny weren't finshed with us yet. Apparently somebody forgot to push that little red button marked 'Record,' so all was for naught. So much 'Dalek Cutaway' prep & stress-work down the tube with the rest of the refuse.

Let us assure you that we feel thuroughly refreshed & recharged now and recording of our The Time of Angels shall take place later today as originally planned. Perhaps we shall produce an extra beefy mid-week cutaway in coming days to help atone for our carelessness. Despite our mishap, fortunately cooler heads prevailed as we made use of another red button within reach, this one imprinted with the bold words:

Welcome to this, the 5th Hitchhiker's Guide to the Whoverse: Mostly Harmless Cutaway. Today Eric & Megan break down the newest, latest, and greatest Doctor Who story The Beast Below. WARNING: this review/discussion contains world ending SPOILERS you may be able to protest, but won't be able to forget.

What can we say other than this conversation went on much longer than intended. For being a mere 42 minutes, this particular story was chock full of material to wade through.

Thanks so much to Sean (@tardistavern), 1 of the 'Two Who Drool' @ the TARDIS Tavern podcast for providing this episode's intro. We certainly feel his contribution adds a bit of much needed interior decoration & peartini to our otherwise alcohol free program. Please follow the links and check out their impeccably flawless drunken Texan take on the world of Doctor Who.

    Mostly Testicle Cutaway #1: Anywhere

Once in a while something most improbable can happen. This happens to be 1 of those whiles. This unholy creation is a collaborative production between John (@cybertesticle) & Eric (@Bullitt33). It is a satirical Doctor Who parody based on a scene in The Eleventh Hour. John is responsible for writing & performing the script, while Eric pretty much laid out all the rest. Can you believe they make these things for fun? Warning: This skit contains EXPLICIT language. This type of humor is not recommended for the very young or uptight WHO fan!

John is the creator of The Cyber Testicle Podcast and long time friend of the show. We aren't exaggerating when we say his is the most unique Doctor Who podcast around. Give it a sample and you'll understand. This sketch is an example of some of the kinds of things you will find on his feed.

Disclaimer: Whether you like it or not, you may never see one of these things ever again. Not unless you convince us otherwise. The idea to do it was literally born on a camping trip we went on last summer. We trekked to a nearby pond to try and catch some supper. We brought fishing wire & hooks, but had to fashion our own rods. While John was trimming & whittling his branch his hand suddenly slipped, knife in palm, and suddenly slashed the crotch of his trousers. We said, 'John, are you alright mate?' Grimace on face he spoke: 'It's mostly testicle cutaway.' To which we exclaimed...

Welcome to this, the 4rd HHG2W: Mostly Harmless Cutaway. This episode was never supposed to exist. Think of it as a random bowl of petunias or miraculously improbable sperm whale that really serves no other purpose, but to simply be. Today Eric & Megan... well mostly Eric goes nuts with some crazy potential series 5 / Moffat fanboy conspiracies that have been permeating his brain. Not only that, but Eric also shares 1 important point he failed to bring up during our previous Doctor Who series 5 episode, The Eleventh Hour review. WARNING: this discussion contains SPOILERS or at the very least we assume you have already seen The Eleventh Hour.

During this show we make special mention of and highly recommend the Radio Free Skaro podcast, especially their Eleventh Hour reaction episode #192 - Operation Golden Hour. Coincidentally guesting on that episode was Tacyon TV podcast's very own Neil Perryman (@neilperryman). Please check out his fantastic collaborative Doctor Who Blog: Behind the Sofa. Primarily his Eleventh Hour review: Up to Eleven...

For those unaware, this is not the only podcast Eric is a part of. He got started in podcasting regularly over on the Sci-Fi Party Line podcast where Doctor Who & Torchwood et al are occasionally reviewed. You can find their most recent Doctor Who review here:

Normally our show notes, would be much, much longer and Blue Guy will probably edit & add to this later [watch this space], but we've been piecing this episode together for countless hours now and just want to get it out already!!!

Thanks so much to Chris (@dubbayoo), 1 of the 'Three Who Rule' @ the Radio Free Skaro podcast for providing this episode's intro. Thanks so much to Chip (@2minutetimelord) from the Two-minute Time Lord podcast for providing this episode's intro. We certainly feel his contribution adds a bit of gravitas to our humble program. Please follow the links and check out his awesome concentrated commentaries on the world of Doctor Who.

Also thanks to Radio Free Skaro for getting many of these recent series 5 clips & trailers up on their website in swift order. We really appreciate your efforts.

Disclaimer: Yes we realize that this still isn't you're beloved Hitchhiker's Guide to the Whoverse. Well, were you aware that series 5 of Doctor Who is imminent? We don't know about you, but we are super excited over here and we'd really like to talk about the new show, record our thoughts, and post them on our feed. We'd really love for all of you, our listeners, to hang around and give the new format a chance, but we understand if it's not your cup of tea. We are planning to do a ~15-20 minute MHC / Review / Discussion for each and every series 5 ep airing for approximately the next 14 weeks, hopefully to be released by that Monday following the UK/BBC airing. There are still remaining backlog HHG2W in addition to those we will continue to create so stay tuned, they will eventually appear on this feed. We hope all of you find our plans and endeavors worthwhile, this is going to be a very, very busy season for us to try and crank the podcasts out in a timely, current, and relevant matter. Please strap yourselves in, hold on tight, and whatever you do...

In preparation for Matt Smith's opening story The Eleventh Hour premiering on the BBC, here is a re-release our condensed Minute Waters of Mars (review) from the Sci-Fi Party Line vault. The full SFPL WoM review can be heard here. Next Friday (4/2) we should be posting our follow-up abbreviated Too Minute End of Time review. And if all goes well we should have a new Mostly Harmless Cutaway coming later that weekend as well. Of course every happenstance I have just stated is most improbable so please don't hold us to any of it.

The Cyber Testicle's own (hilarious) 1 minute WoM review can be found here. Be forewarned: it contains explicit language.

This preview features contributions from: Amy (@AmyHirschman), Jeff (@The_BORG), Will (@LW_Will), Carl (@robotcast), Eric (@Bullitt33) and Cat (@fancyfembot).

And now for something completely different...

Welcome to this, the first Mostly Harmless Cutaway.  Like the rest of the universe it was created with more of a whimper than a bang really. What? This wasn't what you signed up for? This isn't your beloved Hitchhiker's Guide to the Whoverse? Firstly, DON'T PANIC. Secondly, note the title: "Mosty" - "Harmless" - "Cutaway." We thought it a very apt name as it's description is written right there on the outside of the box. No intended misdirection on our part.

If you listen, (and we're sure you will) you'll hear it explained that this is simply a slight deviation from our traditional podcast format you may be accoustumed to by now. This is our producer (if you in fact believe that we have one) breaking down that 4th wall and speaking to you directly about whatever might be on his mind pertaining to the Whoverse et al.

In this MHC Eric interviews a new friend he made at the Gallifrey One convention. Megan (@meganhibner) is a cosplayer and at Gally 21 she dressed up as Sarah Jane Smith from The Hand of Fear. Also check out Megan's The Channel of Rassilon on YouTube. Remember her name, this may not be the last we hear from her...

Special thanks to John Brannigan from the Cyber Testicle Podcast for our 1st guest intro. And while you're at it, why not congradulate him on his new baby via twitter? (@cybertesticle) We've said it once, we've said it a thousand times: His is the freshest of the new batch of Doctor Who podcasts out there. And by freshest we mean most putrid, but adoringly & most entertainingly so.

Expect more MHC's in the near future, but not only that. Perhaps next Friday (3/26) we shall re-release our condensed Minute Waters of Mars (review) from the Sci-Fi Party Line vault followed by our Too Minute End of Time the Friday after (4/2) in preparation for Matt Smith's opening story The Eleventh Hour premeireing on the BBC. And yes, somewhere in there, or after, or yesterday, we shall release HHG2W #5 Hiatus. Yes, we also thought that a very appropriate title as well. ;^)

Disclaimer: We, the makers of this fine audio program in no way take any responsibity for was has just transpired... unless you liked it. There was at least 1 faux paus committed during recording of this episode, some of you may or may not notice it. For those who do, we can conditionally promise that it is highly improbable that particular something will ever happen again. Unfortunately, due to the never ceasing recession we have been forced to cut 58% of our staff. Despite such losses we are still offering this podcast to you free of charge! Please repay us by leaving a kind comment on iTunes. Or lastly, if all else fails...

  • Gallifrey 21

    5 March 2010 (5:22am GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 minutes and 0 seconds

For those who don't know, yours truly attended the recent Gallifrey 21 convention in Los Angeles, CA (Feb 26-28). As you might expect, the entire experience was rather fantastic. So fantastic in fact, that days later we still haven't quite recovered. We could go on and on about all the amazing & unexpected experiences we had at the convention, but we won't. All we can say right now is that we somehow feel different, somewhat changed, when it comes to our shared love of Doctor Who.

By now we had expected to post a new(er) episode of our regular Guide to the Whoverse, but suddenly we have been left reeling, thinking, "What else can we do to reflect on the convention?" Well we're still thinking about it. Never fear, more HHG2W will eventually materialze, we're just contemplating whether we should take some time out to react to this whole affair that was Gallifrey 2010, and if so, in what way.

In the meantime, after examining Radio Free Skaro's glorious recording set-up up close and 1st hand at Gally, we are also in the process of waiting for our new microphone, etc. to come in to further improve our own audio production. [Watch this space] for more Hitchhiker's Guide to the Whoverse coming to you soon!

    13 February 2010 (9:32am GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 2 minutes and 37 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

The Da Vinci Code was quite popular at the time this entry was originally produced. What a preposterous work of fiction that was. It's rather more interesting to note the Doctor's role in the production of the mulitple [authentic] copies of this noteworthy work of art. What? You weren't aware the painting hanging in the Louvre is a copy? Listen on weary traveller...

We now present to you our 4th entry originally produced August 20, 2006. Look for HHG2W #5 Hiatus to appear on this feed approximately February 27, 2010. Eek! We'll be at Gallifrey 21 during this time. If we're lucky we might grab some audio from the convention for this feed.

    2. *According to Wikipedia: 'City of Death is believed to be the earliest produced Doctor Who story for which every credited cast member is still living.'

Finally... A better representation of what we do here at the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Whoverse, that is we ineptly try to explain common terms found in the Doctor Who universe that any time tot could probably expertly explain to you in half the time.

A chameleon circuit is not quite the easiest thing to explain. By the very nature of the beast it can appear in the guise of many countless different forms, not the least of which is a very famous Trock band.

Reaching back in time, we present to you our 2nd entry originally produced July 27, 2006. Look for HHG2W #3 Plastic People to appear on this feed approximately January 30, 2010.

  • HHG2W #1 The Hitchhiker's Guide

    5 January 2010 (10:01pm GMT)
Episode Duration: 0 days, 0 hours, 1 minutes and 17 seconds

    Direct Podcast Download

Once upon a time on July 20, 2006 an awkward, wheezy little child named Douglas was born. This is not his story. Rather, we shall deal with a most unearthly podcast that was also born on the same day.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Whoverse is just what it appears to be... A satirical blatant rip-off of a much more successful publication/volume/franchise
, but we shan't trouble ourselves with that minute detail right now. Prepare yourself for some grand anticipointment* as this podcast isn't very good. It wasn't created out of love, more out of abandonment, and it shows. We cannot promise that it will get any better in time, but we can promise that it will be about time. The Doctor's anyway.

Episode 1 was originally conceived to be a introduction / promo of sorts. It was our intention to share our humble little production(s) with other [better] and already established Doctor Who Podcasts. Back in 2006 both Podshock & WhoCast answered that call. Because this entry is very promo like we don't get very deep into the meat of the Whoverse just yet. All in good time...

    References:
    1. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
    2. *anticipointment - yes this term was coined by Radio Free Skaro, then stolen** by us.
    3. **stolen - borrowed with the intention to return.
