The Christmas/New Year Special 2022 - The Curse of the Black Spot, Adam and Kirby swashbuckle their way through our last review of 2022. We also have feedback and what we watched this week.

We have reached the end of the 12th Doctor's first season. Victoria and Ross have new insights on this veiwing of these two episodes. Missy grand scheme come to it's climax, Danny dies, Clara greaves, and the Doctor is President of Earth, oh by the way that is a terrible idea.  All these things seem new to Ross and that alone sparks some good conversation.

And to kick off the celebrations, we asked our listeners to share with us their favourite Eighth Doctor stories, on TV, audio, books, comics, etc.

Nathan claims to enjoy the idea that the Doctor is a somewhat problematic figure rather than just a traveller or a simple hero. Not everyone agrees, however. In this article in The Atlantic, Ted B Kissell complains that Matt Smith’s Doctor, is in many ways, a fairly terrible person.

As we said last week, Steven Moffat’s actual quote was that Matt Smith is like “Patrick Moore in the body of an underwear model”.

None of us seem to know anything about the ratings here, but The Day of the Doctor was apparently the highest rated drama for the year on the BBC, with 12.8 million viewers and an additional 3.2 million views on iPlayer. On BBC America, it had an audience of 2.8 million viewers, which was the highest rating ever received on the channel. Here's a compilation of some of the highlights of Something Who from 2022.

We had a range of great guests to join the regular team of Richard, Paul and Giles, including Gav Rymill, Tim Burrows, Ellie (Tardis Monkey), Gary Gillatt, Toby Hadoke and Anthony Lamb. And listen to our most recent episodes for a reunion with former co-host Simon. We chatted about pirates, isolated villages, singing, impersonators and returning to previous haunts. But mostly about Doctor Who.

The holiday season is upon us, and we're in a giving mood! Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Tansy as we take a page out of the Deeper Cuts holiday book and pick Doctor Who-related gifts for the world and for each other. These are mostly fanciful things that couldn't possibly happen, but they're a lot of fun nonetheless. It's clear that after 10 years podcasting together, we know what will delight our fellow Verities!
