Genre fans who have not watched Simon Pegg and Doctor Who guest stars Jessica Hynes and Nick Frost in Spaced (1999-2001) really should give it a go. It's a sitcom that's hyper-aware of what we like to call genre tropes, and it's really very funny and sweet.

Bleak House (2005) was Andrew Davies adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel, which ran for 15 30-minute episodes in late 2005, and starred Anna Maxwell Martin, as well as Doctor Who alumna Carey Mulligan, as well as Torchwood's Burn Gorman, Gillian Anderson and Charles Dance. Not everyone was very happy about it.

Who gave Dodo syphilis? It was Daniel O'Mahony, author of the Virgin Missing Adventure novel The Man in the Velvet Mask, in which the Doctor and Dodo meet the Marquis de Sade in an alternative version of post-Revolutionary Paris. Avoid. Or better still, read El Sandifer's take.

Am Tag vor der grossen Premiere von Staffel 11 werfen wir noch einmal einen Blick auf das bis heute neu aufgelaufene Promomaterial und ein paar News. In der Hoffnung ein wenig frischen (und von vielen gewunschten) positiven Wind in die Betrachtung zu bringen, hat sich - nach sehr langer "Time Lord"-Abstinenz - Pia an die aktuellen Trailer und vor's Mikro getraut. Ob der eher negative Blickwinkel des letztens Casts dann alleine an den Moderatoren, oder doch einfach am Material lag? Dieser Cast sollte die Antwort um eine weitere Meinung erweitern. Naturlich haben wir die Chance dann auch direkt fur die Aufarbeitung der Post - in diesem Falle der mittlerweile aufgelaufenen Postkarten - genutzt. Ausserdem gibt es diesmal wieder etwas zu gewinnen (genaugenommen sogar zweimal) und einen grossen Funken Hoffnung, dass uns Doctor Who am morgigen Sonntag alle ganz kraftig uberraschen wird.

Sneaking through the “Aussie Podcasters” channel at Heathrow for their long-promised, long-delayed visit to the Whoseum this week are Rob and Mark from the “42 to Doomsday” podcast. Mark presents us with his back catalogue of “Doctor Who Bulletin” fanzines and Rob presents us with his copy of “The Doctor Who Technical Manual”.

Along the way, we compare the relative merits of Adelaide, Sydney and Perth, while mulling over Australian house prices and the role played by pink shorts in Australian democracy.
