Rob and Dave Unplugged (The DW Show Presents: Fandom in the 80s, 90s and Beyond)
The Doctor Who ShowJanuary 27, 2018 saw a lot of firsts... it was the first time Rob met Dave in person; the first time the guys recorded an episode of their show in person; the first time Rob had ever recorded a podcast with ANYONE else in the room; the first time they recorded with the guys from the New to Who podcast (see our February 25 episode); the first time Rob had met any of the Flight Through Entirety podcast team... and so on. You get the idea.
Anyway, at some stage on that very busy day, amid recording an episode of the Doctor Who Show and an episode of New to Who, Rob and Dave found time to crack out a single microphone, mount it on a table, and have a conversation about Doctor Who fandom in Australia. Basically how they came into it; what it was like; conventions, and more. They end up moving through the topic and even onto talking about the modern era of fandom that they now no longer feel a major part of, but are extremely supportive of.
Very personal... a little indulgent... and the sound quality isn't quite where the Doctor Who Show normally pitches, but if you're at all interested in our back stories, or Doctor Who fandom in Australia in the 80s and 90s in particular, this could be a very interesting episode for you to hear.

Episode 191: Kill the Sun
Trust Your DoctorPerhaps we need to rethink our goals for this podcast…
This week we remind everyone that Nokia totally collapsed. That’s right, that really big phone manufacturer totally ruined themselves. It was no one’s fault but their own. It’s 42, written by Chris Chibnall and aired on May 19, 2007.
Show-notes:
0:28 This year’s Eurovision is only a few months away.
1:30 24 ran for more than 200 episodes over like 9 seasons. Jesus.
3:32 Yeah, they do make smartphones. Look at that 3310.
5:12 You can still check out the prologue story thing.
18:09 John Carpenter used his “phone a friend” on Who Wants to be a Millionaire to tell his dad he knew the answer.
22:45 Check out our Blake’s 7 podcast Zenith.
31:54 RIP.
35:20 Challenger was the one that blew up when it launched. That was in 1986. Columbia was the one that disintegrated during reentry in 2003.

56. Tegan Jovanka's Funky Ambulance
On the Time LashBen and Mark FINALLY reach the end of Series 5 with a discussion about The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang and Castrovalva. Along the way, they ponder how a Dalek would read an Usborne guide to the Romans, pitch a potential Big Finish boxed set, sing Alanis Morissette, sing Morrissey and just generally have a good time. Whilst some of the chat is potentially a by-product of booze and two friends having not seen each other for a while, there are also some more measured discussions of Amy and Rory's relationship, the problems with the Davison era and a lot of 80s Doctor Who as a whole, and what makes for a good debut from a Doctor.
