TDP 1258: #DoctorWho: The Fifth Doctor Adventures: The Dream Team
Tin Dog Podcastreview This title was released in April 2024. It will be exclusively available to buy from the Big Finish website until 31 May 2024, and on general sale after this date. Mysteries come in all shapes and forms. From a small-scale murder to an alien conspiracy. But when they arise the Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa and Adric are the perfect team to deal with them. The Merfolk Murders by Tim Foley (4 parts) St Andrews, Scotland, 1940. The Merfolk are a university society meeting through the summer to discuss murder mystery stories. Innocent escapism during wartime, they say. Their latest book is The Casebook of Orion Hood - whose hero is all-too-familiar to the Doctor... When a real-life murder occurs soon after their gathering, the Doctor’s friends encourage him to investigate. Is one of the Merfolk responsible? Was this crime the result of espionage or envy? The Doctor must embrace his deerstalker once more and solve this wartime mystery - before the killer can strike again! Dream Team by Lizzie Hopley (2 parts) “Welcome to Concordium! The one-stop destination for elite and effective corporate bonding.” A protected wonder of space is being exploited for ‘company away days’ but when the Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa and Adric land to challenge the organisers, they fall into a web of perfectly tailored nightmares. As the Doctor confronts one of the most dangerous monsters in existence, one that uses your own mind against you while it feeds, his companions fall deeper into the trap and a nasty truth is revealed - you can die in dreams. This release comes with a bonus audiobook download: Meanwhile, Turlough by Jonathan Blum. **Please note: the Collectors' Edition CDs are strictly limited to a pressing of just 1,500 copies**

SHOW NOTES
(00:09:50) Dalek Two Zero and Roboman who will be at the Rev’s wedding next year can be found here.
(00:35:52) “A butcher’s” is short for “Butcher’s Hook” which is Cockney rhyming slang for “a look”. So “I had a butcher’s at” means “I had a look at”.
(00:38:16) The ICON/CON picture Mark is referring to can be seen on our Tumblr page here.
(00:56:46) The site we use to find transcripts of all Doctor Whop episodes ASAP is chakoteya.net.
(01:13:35) “The Frame” was a 24-issue fanzine that ran from February 1987 to Spring 1993. It was different from most other fanzines in that its articles tended to focus on production personnel — especially designers — who had previously been ignored by the fan community. It was further significant because its writers went on to publish professional Doctor Who works, some of which re-used the content of The Frame. It was edited and published by David Howe, Mark Stammers and Stephen James Walker. The cover which the Rev refers to here is that of issue 8 which can be seen on our Tumblr page here.
(01:23:39) The “Television is bad for your eyes” sketch from S03E07 of “Monty Python”.

Episode 79: Everyone was Screaming and Nobody was Happy
Get Off My World
In this appropriately plus-sized Episode 79, Everyone was Screaming and Nobody was Happy, we cover all fourteen parts of The Trial of a Time Lord, and everything becomes very discursive, unclear, inconclusive, incoherent and incomprehensible, until it all sort of comes apart by the end. By which we mean that this Doctor Who story does that, not that our podcast does that. (Although our podcast also does do that.)
Listen as we discuss the history of the Doctor and his companions being done dirty by the BBC, and perk up as we all get kind of thirsty for Sabalom Glitz (and maybe the Master too a little bit).
It’s a long road but it’s worth your time (by which we mean that our podcast is that)!

Season One (2024) Wrap Show
The Doctor Who ShowAs is traditional after we do a season of hot takes on the podcast, we regroup to discuss the season as a whole. Did some episodes go up or down in our estimation, after the initial hot take viewing? What did the rest of fandom think? How do we feel it went overall? Featuring fantastic contributions from our listeners via X, Facebook, email, Instant Messenger, carrier pigeon, our website, and more, this is our definitive - for now - take on Ncuti Gatwa's first season as the Doctor.
Before then, news from the past month including our thoughts - and the BBCs - on Doctor Who ratings, as well as saying goodbye to legend of the show, William Russell. We also catch up with some classic Doctor Who in the form of the Celestial Toymaker animation, and a re-watch of The Ark. And Rob's really selling off his Doctor Who collection in earnest!

#251 - A Real Mother
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2An entertaining enough finale, but with big enough plot holes that you could drive a pyramid through. Something went wrong with this season in more ways than one and with Empire of Death, Davies seemed oblivious and tone death to some of the underlying messages his drama was sending. Basically, nothing in it really makes sense, and many of the story's emotional beats were insensitive or unearned. The opening music is from the soundtrack composed by Murray Gold. The closing music is Johnny "Guitar" Wilson's 1977 song "A Real Mother For Ya". We recorded this episode on 25 June 2024.
