Episode 119 - The Romans (with Jason Davis)
Doctor Who LiteratureWelcome to the final week of our four-episode William Hartnell mini-season. The Romans is released in paperback in September 1987 and is the fourth straight Doctor Who novelization to come out of the First Doctor era.
Here on Doctor Who Literature, Jason Davis is back for the week to talk us through The Romans in both its print and TV incarnation. We also discuss lots of classic film and TV contents, and the particular perils of being an American Doctor Who working retail in the late 1990s.
Follow the Jason Davis by signing up for his irregularly offered newsletter at HumanityIsMyBusiness.com. Buy his book, Writing the X-Files, there or at Amazon, or books he edited from their respective authors: Stuntlady by Sandra Gimpel and Pleasure Thresholds by Patricia Tallman.

#252 - The Original Leading Man
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2We pay our respects to William Russell, the actor who played Ian Chesterton, Doctor Who's original leading man. With Russell, Ian proved to be a solid and dependable man of action and reason. Along with Jacqueline Hill, who played Barbara Wright, the two provided the moral centre for the early show, which relied on their decency, normality, and dependability to guide the viewers in the early mid-1960s along this amazing adventure in space and time. The programme will likely never see another character like Ian again. The opening music is from "The Chase" soundtrack composed by Dudley Simpson and the closing music is from "The Aztecs" composed by Richard Rodney Bennett and performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra in 2021. We recorded this episode on 15 July 2024.

TDP 1274: 2.2. The Paternoster Gang: Trespassers 2: The Casebook of Paternoster Row review
Tin Dog Podcastreview In Victorian England, the Great Detective, Madame Vastra, her resourceful spouse, Jenny Flint, and their loyal valet, Strax, solve conundrums, fight injustice and capture criminals - but an enemy has taken up residence undetected. Vastra believes trespassers are close at hand, and seeks out clues in some of the Gang's previous cases... 2.4 Anne of a Thousand Light Years by James Kettle The course of true love never does run smooth - especially when it involves a high-born young lady, a humble farmhand and extra-terrestrial chameleons on the lookout for breeding stock. Will Lady Anne Warminster marry the man of her dreams? Will the amorphous Glossophants secure their chosen spawn bride? Will Jenny ever finish reading a novel by Anthony Trollope? In the heart of the English countryside, the Gang tackle an assignment involving romance, skulduggery and horse manure. 2.5 Pater Noster by Gary Russell Something is hiding in the sewers of London, picking off the poor and lost souls who live down there... Madame Vastra opens a case file that takes her back to her early days and a Life Task that must be finally fulfilled. A case where she and her friends face death from an enemy capable of shredding matter into echoing screams... 2.6 The Gentlemen Thieves by Lauren Mooney and Stewart Pringle Vastra reviews the case of a 'one-man crime wave' - break-ins and burglaries, committed by the same handsome and daring thief, even when they were committed at exactly the same time. Unravelling the secrets of these doppelganger ne’er-do-wells, the Gang touch on the fringe of a bigger conspiracy. But as Vastra recalls the past, the dangers of the present are closing in.
