#255 - Marterology
Doctor Who: The Metebelis 2We continue with our Ian Marter discussion with a brief conversation about the debut of Harry Sullivan in "Robot"! But, before we get underway, we pick up where we left off with new details about Marter's time at St. Edmund Hall at Oxford University with the discovery that there is a recording on vinyl of Marter singing in You Can't Do Much Without a Screwdriver, an original musical staged by the Oxford University Experimental Theatre Club at the Oxford Playhouse in May 1965. Marter played the lead character, Guy Ffolkes, an Amnesian nationalist, and sings "Bang On" with Jack and Harry, described as two villains in the playbill. There's a photograph of Ian with Adèle Geras née Weston on stage during the production. We also uncovered a photograph of young Ian with fellow Oxford students, Tamara Ustinov, John Dodgson, Anne Bibby, and Nick Elliott rehearsing for another play. Plus a photograph of Marter with actor Richard Burton in a local pub. Opening and closing music is "Mysterious Robots," composed by Dudley Simpson. We recorded this episode on 26 August 2024.

Podcastica Episode 320: The Sensorites OR A Very Scooby Story
PodcasticaHe wouldn't have gotten away with it, too! If it wasn't for those meddling kids and their crotchety old Time Lord! Yes, this week we watched The Sensorites! Honestly, a pretty good six-parter that wasn't exactly fast-paced and full of action, but also didn't really have pacing problems either. What it did have was one really crazy Sensorite who did not want humans (or their Time Lord) anywhere near their planet and he did some pretty Scooby villain stuff to stop them. Well, try and stop them at least. Anyway! Grab some Scooby Snacks and let's dive in!

Episode 100a: A Ton of Fun
Something WhoIt's taken us a few years, but here's Something Who podcast bringing up the ton - yes, it's our landmark 100th episode!
And to mark the occasion, rumours of his demise having been greatly exaggerated, we also have the triumphant return of podcast regular Paul., alongside fellow regular Giles, returning guest Rick and the ever present Richard.
In this episode, we chat briefly about what we can readily recall about the first 100 episodes of the podcast and what it's meant to us. Then we look at 4th Doctor story The Stones of Blood from Season 16, which in the next episode we'll pair with 12th Doctor story Under The Lake / Before The Flood from Series 9.
Please like or share our podcast with people who will enjoy it, so we can build our listener base high for happiness. You can rate us directly on Apple Podcasts or Podchaser.com
Head over to https://www.bigfinish.com/, where we all love Paul's stories.
Rick posts on social media as @brickpandorica, where you can find fantastic pictures of his Lego models of Doctor Who moments, such as the one forming our cover art this episode.
Giles' book A History of the Universe in 21 Stars: (and 3 Imposters) can be found in all good bookshops and also here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/History-Universe-21-Stars-Imposters/dp/1787394654/
Richard has another podcast with co-hosts Emily & Nicola, called "If It's Hurting, It's not Working" and it's a fun and informative look at work - why we work, how we work, and what makes a great job. Go to https://ifhurtnotwork.podbean.com/ and https://ifhurtnot.work for more.
The Something Who logo, which features prominently on all our cover art was designed for us by Bea Garrido. She's a really talented artist, who you can find by following this link: https://linktr.ee/beagarrido, where, among other artworks, you can buy prints of some remarkable paintings of characters from Doctor Who.
